I went a different route on shortening the tunnel/ cooler— also using MTNTK products. I liked it so much, I became a dealer for them.

I installed their five foot cooler and plumbed it in, omitting the stock cooler completely.

First I tested it without cutting the tunnel at all— to confirm cooling capability. After running the whooped out trail with no snow flap and only hitting 131 degrees, and then running between 88-93 degrees in deep snow, I took the plunge and made the cut (7”)last night.

Shortened tunnel ride today.
I really like how the center cooler keeps the center of the tunnel free of snow/ice buildup

My cousin did this last year on his RMK 146" build. It has been working flawlessly! ? Temperature has been exactly the same as my 155" when I have compared them. And little less ice build up on the running boards too.

This would be the real benefit.

I’m thinking I should do it even with a cut tunnel.

Turn that poo oem tunnel cooler into an auxiliary fuel cooler.

ha!... I’ve been thinking the same thing. Along with plumbing a bulkhead cooler in series for no snow build up.
This! Snow build-up!

Pro and Axys are light, and although I dont subscribe to Cats presentation of the difference in weight including snow build-up, it is a significant drawback..

Add the ice chunks on the inside leg of your bibs, and I am ready for a change.

I'm a little concerned with cutting off the crossover exchanger and not replacing it as this is part the tunnel structure. My guess is those that have will start to see cracking at the bottom of the tunnel side plate just behind the rear suspension mount much earlier then those that have welded the cross cooler back in. Just what I'm thinking.
