I was just looking my sled over before taking it on my first ride of the season and noticed a bunch of pitting in the sheaves of my primary clutch. Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas of what its from? something flopping in there? Needle bearings from the clutch rollers?

I haven’t ever had it off, but will be removing an cleaning.

I had something kinda like that on my old Pro Rmk. A little sliver of metal had gotten wedged in the belt, every time the belt went round it would put another scratch/pit. Take your belt off and check it out. I found it and removed, scotch brighted the clutches and the problem was gone.

Good luck

Yes thanks, thats what im planning on looking for. And doing, just waiting on a clutch puller, so i can clean them up, because of the lovely idea of moving the oil reservoir above the cluches

Do you still have the tools on the clutch guard? I found a spare screw in the bottom of the belly pan when mine was new. Take an extendable magnet and reach around below the engine and see if you pick anything up. If the gouges are deep enough you may need to have the sheaves machined.

No i never put them down there, buddy had a wreck fall out of his, wasn’t good. I tried a magnet, but i think it was aluminum shavings from drilling in me Z bros skid plate an bumper. I just put my bash plates on an checked under the motor an clutches good

The belt marks tell the story of long, flat wide open runs. Possible running a smaller, shorter track. If no, you are an animal with a 3” track!
Woohoo!

Hardware or exhaust spring?

Is your driven marked up as well? A fastener/broken spring can bounce between both sheaves riding on the belt. Not fun to find, but have seen it happen.

Check under the engine or other side of the compartment.

Sorry 4 the delay. But got primary and belt off, an belt looks like new no scratches or anything lodged in it. Did see or find anything in the belly pan so kinda stumped yet. I guess i will scuff it with a scratch pad, clean everything an run it
