I just picked up a 2006 800 rev that has 2400 miles on it and would like some input on any problems with these sleds what kind of prevenative maintnance I should be doing and what kind of milage I can expect out of this motor. Thanks for any input.

1900 miles on mine. my only complaints are the oil cap. get a new dragon oil cap. problem solved, if you dont fix the leaky oil cap it will gum up the starter and it will break. the only other thing just happened last saturday. the throttle position sensor is going out and made my sled act like it was missing on a cylinder or spattered on me as it struggelled to make it to 8200 rpm. other then that its been a monster. out climbs my buddies 08 xp!

Change the chain and bottom gear to a 15 wide, inspect chain before each season and if you feel like it once mid season. My bro's '06 seems to be hard on chains. Otherwise the thing rocks, climbs with the new xps for sure.

Had mine for three seasons now and it runs perfect...no problems and its got 3800 hard miles. No complaints at all...it rips. Added some 2cool air vents to it too and the clutches stay a whole lot cooler, would recommend that.

i use to have one with 3300miles on it. The sled ripped, beat a new xp in all aspects, wish i would have never sold it now. I ceramic coated the pipe and added a couple flowrites so it never ate belts, did the gearing change, boy that was a awsome sled....

i put on the chain & upper sproket from an 07. Get dynamo joe's clutch kit!!

Snow will hit the headlight, melt, then water runs down the headlight onto your ECM, took mine out at 1400 miles. Relocate or unplug and add some dielectric..sp? grease to help keep the h2o from shorting the ECM. Dino

Do these suggestions also apply to the 05 800ho Summit?
I just picked one up with 2500 sMiles on it & I have a few $$ left over for mods / preventative maint.

Thanks!

The 05 still had a MPEM that was on the oil tank. Not under the headlight. Dino

If it's on the factory motor you might want to consider doing the top end. I did mine (same sled) at 2800mi and it was a bit overdue. Have the crank checked out as well. If I would have pulled the PTO side crank bearing cover when I had mine apart I would have discovered that the grease had all escaped and the bearings were dry. I didn't though and it packed up on me hard. Oh well it was nothing a new short block couldn't fix.
Even after giving me some grief this season, I still love this sled. It chews.

There are so many mixed reviews on the rev 800 that I don't know who to believe anymore. Guys I've talked to around this area say they have had absolutely no problems with them and love them. I come on here and if I had read half the crap about cranks, pistons, rings, belt eating.....etc, etc I would never have bought one. (2004 800 Highmark Extreme with 600 miles) So far I've only put 300 miles on mine and really, really like it. But.... reading all the input from guys on here has me freaked. I guess I'll just ride it til she blows. Hopefully that's about 5000 miles away!

1600 Miles on our 06, mag side seal fails...then the rod bearing, crank bearings were dry on the pto side. Our 04 3200 miles starts one pull, runs great...dont know what to tell ya. The 04 will get torn down before next season, if it makes it that long. Feel as if I am on borrowed time. Dino

I've heard more good than bad about the 04 for some reason. 3200 miles in my books is pretty darn good! Talked to a guy the other day who says he has over 4000 miles on his and is only on his second belt. What did they change,or should I say mess up on the newer models that has Doo owners cursing them so bad? Or....does it maybe come down to how guys are riding them hard and not maintaining them?

list

I have 06 rev X 159. 2500 miles, snow checked it new.
Do: check chain as I have changed 3. if lucky you will find a piece of broken chain on your dip stick magenet, If not lucky you will be buying a chain case. I now have 15 wide top (20) gear and team chain not Skidoo OEM. a 2 beer job
I took out an ECM (eroded prongs) but got it on policy, relocated to the top of the oil tank with stock harrness and fabed a couple of light alum brackets to mount it there. a 2 beer job
With the amount of miles u have pull your primary clutch and remove the 4 screws holding you PTO seal/cover in place, remove the seal, very easy job but the 4 screws may be very tight (lock tight) you may even have to loosen with a chesil. Have some new screws when you buy the grease. check your PTO bearing grease. If it is dry/grey or black or gone, buy a tube of grease from your dealer (special grease) 50 bucks. use an air gun ( blower) and blow in 25-35 oz of grease if required. This is a good PM check as it could save you 2-3 grand later. take 20 minutes to do this It won't bother you the next time you drop off the back of a mountain. 2 beer for this one as well

I relocted the heater/ start switches to the riser just cause i was always turning them off and on. Used the stock switch group, removed from bars screwed back part of switch group to riser and then screwed back to gether with quarter to fill the handle bar hole. 1 beer.

I have played with primary weights and springs I'm not giving you my recipe as you may not ride yours like i use mine.

Ceramic coated stock pipe for best results and very clean look.

5 beer pm, under $250 in parts and $150 for pipe coating.
These simple changes and checks will give you years more value from your 06
Sled rips. I will not upgrade to new XP (YET).You will have a ball on this machine.
Cheers

06

Got our 06 together last night , new crank and pistons $$$$ Going to Surveyor today but will take the 04, a bit longer track. Was late when we got done and I want to take one more look at the fuel ines and such before we stress test it!! :face-icon-small-sho Dino

My 04 had the y-pipe bolts back out. Changed them last year with OEM stuff and this year they were out again. did the Nord lock mod and hope it holds....other than that, the thing runs great.....

Nordloc your Y pipe bolts, cover your ECM or move it and put dielectric grease into the plug and i guess check the stock chain. So far my chain is good. I will probably change it for next season.

leaking oil from cap

1900 miles on mine. my only complaints are the oil cap. get a new dragon oil cap. problem solved, if you dont fix the leaky oil cap it will gum up the starter and it will break. the only other thing just happened last saturday. the throttle position sensor is going out and made my sled act like it was missing on a cylinder or spattered on me as it struggelled to make it to 8200 rpm. other then that its been a monster. out climbs my buddies 08 xp!

The oil cap issue, I have been trying to figure out how to get my 05 to stop leaking. I thought I had it licked with petroleum rated thread tape, but it is leaking again. Anyone else tried the Dragon cap? How much did this cost from Polaris? I keep using Polaris on my doo.... Tail light, oil... now oil cap?????
