2006 600 HO RMK Good or Bad?

Going to look at a used one tomorrow with my brother. Is there anything that I should look for? I am a yamaha guy so I have not been following the progression of the Polaris sleds. Any tips would be great. Its a 144 has the slp goodies on it....

Thanks!

Great sled, tons of fun. Make sure to check the mag side VES spring, the hole that drains the headlight area is located right above the hole to the VES... I have a 2006 and a 2008, both springs were shot, the 2006 spring was completely rusted through. Plug the hole and drill another one a few inches away and that will help that problem that Polaris doesn't recognize.

The spindles on the 2006 have a lot more turning effort than the 2007 or the 2008. 2008 spindles or aftermarket (Holts) will make steering less of a chore.

The 600 engine is pretty dependable, you don't hear of many problems with it.

Good sled IMO. Solid performer for what it is. No real known issues to watch out for. Just look it over like you would any other sled. If you end up with it, you will not be dissappointed. Thery are fun and nimble!

Good sled, much lighter and perkier feeling than the 900 of the same year is ;)

My parents have 2 of them and I've got quite a bit of seat time on them.

They suffer from the same ****ty *** skis and spindles the rest of the 06 sleds do, so I would highly recommend putting Holz spindles and the newer Gripper skis on them, or perhaps the Powder Pros.

I don't know if I would worry about doing the 225# front track spring and swaybar like Carl's recommends as they are _MUCH_ lighter than the 900's are .... If you wanted to set it up mainly for trail riding you might do that, but for pow I dont know if you would really need to IMO ...

They're very perky little sleds, but I would definatley plan on putting new spindles and skis on it.

With that said, the only other thing I don't like about these sleds is that they blow black smog all over the snow. Personally I find this completley unacceptable that in the year 2006 with all our riding areas on the line Polaris can't give the sleds a factory tune that eliminates this. I have never owned a sled that did this, not even my old 1978 340 Enticer I used to ride when I was a little kid :)

If this is a concern, F-Bomb posted some info in another thread I made about it and said you could lean out the bottom end by going to a 1.0 or 1.1 size air jet and setting the choke accordingly.

Other than that they've been good sleds, albeit a PITA to start :o

Install a set of V-Force reeds, the Holz spindles, 06 Switchback A-arms, skis and shocks and the $180 drive belt. A nice powder or trail sled is the result. 3900 miles on mine, no need for much else. A fine choice.

How much wider are the switchback a-arms?

Do you have to buy steering arms and everything as well?

I have never seen any problems with the ones I've ridden with, very solid sleds.
