2004 ski doo mxz 800 not starting unless I give it throttle

Just picked up a skidoo and it doesn’t want to start unless I give it some throttle when it’s cold. It still takes around 10 pulls to start even then. I cleaned the carbs that seemed to make it run better once started but not with starting it. It also idles around 1700 but sometimes shoots up to just under 3000 rpm. Any help is greatly appreciated

An air leak around the intake boot can cause that. It's common for them to delaminate & tear. If that's the case, don't ride it until it's fixed.

Also the slides like to wear. They have a coating on them that will come off eventually.
