Hi,
I am currently working on rebuilding a 2001 800 le motor to put in to a iqr chassis and I am at the point where I am assembling the motor. Because I had the case line bored and the head skimmed to flatten it out I wanted to check the Volume of the head. Here's what I came up with when using (2) .020" metal base gaskets which was suggested by the machinist based on what he removed from case and head.

With (2) .020" metal base gaskets
Installed Head Volume 34cc
Uninstalled Head Volume 46cc
Squish band .059"
Head number 3021219

From what found from the 2001 manual I should have.
Installed Head Volume 36-37cc
Uninstalled Head Volume 50+/-.5cc
Head number 3021066

So I have two questions, is this a misprint in the manual because that head number (3021066) was only for the 2000 800 non ves motors and the Polaris parts diagram shows the 01 800 le motor with the 3021219 head. And If this is a misprint what should I have for uninstalled and Installed Head Volume?

Thanks for the help,
Hayes

I didn't see a reply to this. The 00 head and the 01 head are different. The outlet is different but I thought the 01 also had a bit more compression than the 01.

Yeah, I know, not much help, sorry.

Thanks sled_guy

I also thought that the 01 had higher compression. One thing that makes me think the manual specs could be wrong is that the Head Uninstalled Volume is 4cc's lower then the Manuals that would mean almost .030" was shaved off the head when my machinist told me he only took off .005"....

I hope Im not over thinking this, I just dont want to ruin a motor that I just dumped money into.

Thanks,
Hayes

I was able to get a dealer to look up the spec, he found the uninstalled head volume to be 46.5+/-.5cc. This close to what I measured and I have the proper squish so I think I should be fine.

Thanks
