2000 PS burning belts

i have a 2000 powder special that i'm having problems with the belts. the clutches polish the edges of the belt and the belt starts slipping we got to looking at the clutches and there are little bits of melted belt on them the edges of the belt are really polished. anyone have any ideas. we talked to a local shop who suggested to try taking sandpaper to the clutches to roughen them up but that didn't seem to help.

Do you have a broken motor mount that is letting the clutches out of alignment? Also a bad bearing on the jackshaft would let the driven clutch move forward and misalign as well as loosen the belt, both of which could cause your problem.

Need to know a lot more about the clutching and recent parts to make any sort of educated guess. Springs, weights, cam angles, roller condition, bushing condition, alighnment, gearing, engagement rpm, ect. Yes, like Idacarman said the PS was prone to broken motor mounts and jackshaft and trackshaft bearings failing also.

Have a look at the weights and bushings in the clutch. My sons was doing about the same and I tore it dow tonight to find the bushings gone and the bolts and weigths badly worn.

I was not able to swing any of the weights buy hand.
