163 track options with stock 2.86 pitch

Considering stretching my 20 Khaos to 163. Looks like I have some choices staying with stock pitch drivers. Would appreciate any feedback from actual experience. I mainly ride in Colorado above 9000 feet, don’t make a habit out of chasing hard pack, kind of a powder snow snob.

in the snow you ride the Polaris 2.6 is the best option. peak is no Bueno, and the extreme can work well but takes a pile of miles to break in.

For the high elevation fluffy snow the factory 2.6 is a solid performer and all around is hard to beat, there are other tracks which will provide more "push" but also in the lighter snow are more prone to trenching.

Anyone else ride the composit m66, looks like a good series 6 substitute. 2 ply so probably a little heavier then the stock one.

I thought I seen that the m66 was 8lbs. Over the poo 2.6". Not 100% though.

The Composit is heavier than the Poo 2.6, but on the plus side that is the track Kurts Polaris was putting on their "snowcheck" 2020 Kaos sleds... that speaks well for their tracks. I absolutely loved the Camso Extreme 2.5 1-ply track, had it on 4 different sleds over the years, fully clipped, VERY durable compared to the Polaris track (never tore a lug), a slight bit more trenchy, maybe. I would say not, as it has fingers on the track which helps too. As far as the Peak track goes, there were 2 durometers with different part numbers, the newer one was supposed to be softer and less trenchy buy I have only heard good things about them from a few serious turbo guys... I would avoid especially for more powdery conditions.
If you get the series 6 polaris track make sure you get one that is clipped under the lugs instead of between, or otherwise fully clip it yourself... all this is IMHO...

I know you specified 2,86’’ pitch only, bitI would suggest a 3’’ pitch track.

We have all kinds of conditions all the way through the season, running 0-1500ft far north. Also have run all the tracks mentioned above minus the M66, currently running a Camso X2.7 and love it, bites on harder snow but works very well i deep snow.

Does not trench if suspension is setup correctly, lifts the front end a little easier than the stock 2.6 series 6, but I like that. Sled is a 2019 850 quicdrive.

Having said what I said above re: 2.86 pitch tracks, I am now running the Camso Extreme 2.7 in 3" pitch on my Axys like Rydningen... and I love it, definitely better than the stock Polaris 3" track the sled had on it when I bought it for most if not all of the conditions I ride...

I put the 9231 with center port on 2.86 pitch on my 11 PRO 163, after stock track damage and was able to go places never possible on stock track and able to be with and stay with the 2.6 tracks in our group all 163s. I like the 2.5 and even though it is 5 or 6 lbs heavier it performed as good if not better than the 2.6 that I ride now and because it is fully clipped, I think it will outlast the 2.6 hands down. I bought it from Tracks USA to my door for $710 a little more than 2 years ago, Probably a little more now. This is my observations and my opinion only.

Also thinking about going longer , really like the x2.7 as it sounds like a tough track and is fully clipped, but is a heavy track vs the new 165 poo track.
Poo 163 x 2.6= 49lbs
Composit m 163 x 2.6= 56lbs full clip
Challenger 163 x2.7=57lbs full clip
Poo 165 x 2.75= 45lbs

Can the Poo 165 be as durable as the Camo x2.7 being 12lbs lighter? Price wise the x2.7 wins by far. Ran a composit on my summit and it also worked very good and was a tough track.

Here again, I think that if you go any other way than 2.86 pitch and CAMSO 2.5 or stock 2.6 - series 6 , you will have to change drivers to get what you want and that is is certainly more work and more expensive. We have a brand new (0 miles) series 6 - 2.6 -163 on the floor in the shop right now.

If your willing to change drivers, get a set of Avid 3"x7 and get a 162 3" power claw. Its an amazing track and very durable. Weighs 51lbs. This does add another problem as your will have increased your driver size and will need to gear down. I would strongly recommend Kurts Polaris 2.38 kits. Works very well, especially for you at 9000'.

And trim rails and antistab on top of drivers and geardown, and I have recently read where some have said the 163 -> 162 may not work with stock rails? Not sure on that last issue, sounds like a crap shot. Great track from what I have heard but definitely a lot of changes to put it on. Camso X 3" pitch tracks can be found center punched so you can use the Polaris 3" track driveshaft and drivers if you can find one and no need to trim rails, so not as many changes.

But 2.86 = no changes was your original goal so your options for that have been stated above and of course the series 5.1 2.4" can be found pretty cheap take-off (probably your cheapest option) but you give up a little there, both in lug height and stiffness. Camso extreme 2.5 (9105M?), Camso Peak, Polaris Series 6 (harder to find used for a good price), Composit, not sure there are other 2.86 pitch options, I think that is it.

My forgetfulness, I put the CAMSO 9105M on my 11 PRO as I did not want to change drivers and that was the one I really like. IMO, I would go this way if I lose my 2.6 on my 18 AXYS 163 . But of course, I will also look at the POO series 8 165 with new drivers also as I have already done the PRO gear down and the driver for the 165 series 8 is the same diameter, so no gearing sprocket changes necessary.

Not quite true, Avid 3’’ pitch drivers are the same circumference as a polaris 7T 2,86’’ driver. No changes needed. Gearing down for other reasons are another deal. Geared down my 800 2016, works well, havent geared down my 850, quite sure I wont be able to load it enough. Pull 8600RPM with 10-72weights and a steeper helix in heavy conditions.

Best price I can find online for new Polaris Series 6 is $1125. Had a couple people on here say that they have one for sale but dead ends so far. I think this track will be by far the best one to use, pricier than the others by $400 but lighter than most other stock pitch replacements.
