16 m8000 153 Weight?

Cat told the dealers at the show this week the 162 M8 LTD 162x3 was 460 dry, so the 153 8-10lbs less. Cat is sending out 2016 153 LTD 3" demo sleds in the next couple weeks. Wait till then and we will get it weighed RTR and compare to a 2015 153.

So with a can you drop 15#. So 445 dry. Not trying to derail but what does the new 3" 163 Poo weigh? Chain case and gears with bigger track. I can't believe it would be anywhere near the 408# of the std 153.

Kind of puts the weight thing a little more into perspective. 445# is not much when you consider the Cat is pretty much ready to ride in the Limited package.

Depends on can

TI - 18.8
TI Quiet - 17.8
HPS - 16.5

Just some examples.

Polaris Pro 163 series 7 3" weighs in at 426# Add seat bag and goggle bag like the Cat and you are at 430# Not that much difference really.

I think the SLP can drops like 16#. So no matter how you look at it the Cat ends up at about 445#.

You guys are just too impatient, you know when they do get into production they will weight in different than these do.

It's so funny hearing guys do the dance...

If you just take this off that sled and add that to this sled... they're almost close.

40+ lbs is a lot. Not insurmountable, but it's a lot.
The new axys slp setup takes off 13 lbs... not as much as the cat, but only a couple lbs difference. A goggle bag & the bag that fits under the seat on a pro weigh about a pound... and that's pushing it. The seat bag comes in just under 12 oz, and we all know a goggle bag weighs only a couple ounces MAX. (the fact that cat comes with them is pretty nice though, I like the little tunnel bag thing on the cats... it works well imo.)
Headlight delete on a cat takes off WAY more than on a pro (7 lbs more approx, but costs way more as well)... not sure about axys.
With the narrow A arms, not sure on A arm weight comparison, not much to lose there aside from having better geometry & better failure points.
We can always lose a few lbs off the cat with wheels, replacing with the BDX inner idler setup & a set of anti stabs further back, Looks like the 16 poo has already done that, you can see a set that looks exactly like the BDX setup on the center shock shaft.

Lots of other little places to lose weight, but not that big of a difference between the two that makes it easy for the Cat (or doo) to catch up.

If the guy on the Axys carries all his avy & med/safety gear, all yours, carries all the food for the day, AND he also carries a 25 lb baby in a front pack... oh yeah, you've totally got him though, nobody mentioned THAT scenario.

If you take a heavy sled, and take off the difference between that sled & the light sled, it will weigh as much as the light sled. Any questions, just ask me, I got this :eyebrows:

The snow build up on a pro is pretty retarded!

I've taken off an honest 35lbs (no engine mods such as pipe) on my 14, you could do the same stuff to the 16, so with all that it would weigh 425. In comparison to the pro, but it cost me 2300 plus labor. Put that into a pro and it's prob down another 15-20lbs with added power. I think the pro has the leg up on this conversation.

As for the 15 pro though, won't touch my 14 even close but I do have 4k in my sled with the 3" and a grand into clutching.

So has anyone seen any published weights yet on the M8000 162? I am not trying to bash the weight. I just want to see how it compares to a T3 163. I am snow checking one or the other and I am down to knit picking.

Since Cat doesn't publish weights, the rumors are probably all you'll get. We weighed the '15 162 sleds ready to ride and had Cat at 554 and the T3 163 at 537. The Cat had a 3". See results on snowmobile.com. The Doo has lost some weight in the T3...essentially the difference that can be gained with a Can on the Cat.

If you haven't, I would definitely want some seat time before making your decision. I ended up buying an XM without enough seat time and regretted it. If you like the rider forward, motocross feel the ski-doo is great but in tracked, rutted, and lower snow spring type conditions the Doo is pretty squirrely. Each to his own, right. Cat is much more like the older M sleds but improved and definitely feels more stable and predictable....more like a snowmobile than a bike. Hope you're able to ride them before deciding.

Yeah I rode a T3 163 too this year. Didn't like it either. My buddy loves it though. To each their own. Too squirrelly is how I felt about it too. I feel right at home on either a Poo or Cat.

my paperwork for my '14 153 cat i believe says the dry weight is 460-465lbs if i remember right, cat claims to have dropped a few lbs in 15 and 16 so i guess that could give you a rough guesstamation. if your coming off a poo the cat will probably be the most comfortable to jump on. ive always rode poo and cat and anything sense the rev feels awkward to me as far as doo goes. but i got friends that ride doo and swear by them.

I do hope I can get some seat time on the Cat. Snow is melting like crazy around here though. 46 degrees at 1:00 on Sat. up at the snowmobile parking lot. There won't be much more time to ride one if it doesn't show up pretty soon.

Was at our dealer tonight and they just got in a m8000 153" green limited and the paper work said 463#. Also had a m6000 141"sp and it said 450#.

To be fair, those numbers are usually shipping weight, right? So basically everything but gas & the oil in the tank?

So looking at dry weight for comparison sake, probably 450ish? Don't feel like doing any more math today, I get enough estimating drywall & steel studs, don't want to estimate coolant & shock oil :D

Thanks for the pics, that limited Green has really grown on me!

--They would gain some weight back if they used 3 inch pitch drive sprockets instead of 2.86 -- they also have to use 7 tooth sprockets for there new 2.6 track..whatever
