All 3in 800s, '19 and '20.
My 155 sometimes runs 20-40° hotter than my buddies 163 on the trail, sometimes the temps are very close.

Off trail, were about even. 93-100°

Is this normally seen between the 2 lengths?

163's run 120's-130's my 155 runs 140's-160's.
Last April we were about the same, 113-125° even on a 15mile jeep ruted road.

Anyone care to share their trail temps on 156vs 163.
These temps are with in the first mile or 2 of riding and stay that way till i can get off the trail.

One time i watched the temp drop from 140° down to 113° in a couple hundred feet on the trail. This was after 4mi of running 140-160° while i was dragging feet to get as much snow kicked up in to the track as possible.

Sled stayed ~113° for another mile before we went off trail, no feet dragging.

I suppose I can't really speak for the 3 inch versions. My 2018 2.6" version though does a terrific job of keeping temp with the scratchers down on a trail. The thermostat is set at like 105 and as long as there is snow to scratch up and a little bit of speed to keep it scratched, I never really even go over 120. I would be really scared of running these polaris engines at that hot of a temp for that long. But, then again, I'm just scared of these polaris engines period so...?

Oh, also, mine is an 800. As I think about it more, I'm guessing yours would be the 850 probably, which would also make a difference.

All 800s.
I ride with 2013 155 pro without a snowflap and he runs cooler on the trail than my 2020 800.

The first 160 miles, my sled never hit 130° and it was mostly trail rides.

That is really wild. I can only imagine there has to be something wrong with your sled. No idea what it would be, but it just doesn't seem right.

Bad temp sensor?

I know its not apples to apples. But i was breaking in my new indy specialty 850 wharthog motor on the lake today. We dont have enough snow to ride yet. 4 inches or so down to bare ice in spots. Got 8 inches choped off the 155 tunnel with a 3 foot mtntek cooler and no flap. 3 inch. Powerclaw 153. Was holding at 130

I took an inferred thermometer with me to check just that.
All of our tunnel coolers were ~10° cooler than the engine temp on the gauge.

I wonder if the mapping is different on the '20s? Could run a bit leaner and cause a bit more heat.

I understand an extra 4in of tunnel cooler will have more cooling capacity but it should be like 10° difference, not 40°.

I have a buddy with a 2018 163 and no snowflap all season last year, ran 130's on the trail.

Maybe i just need to install a 3' mtntek cooler.

I would like to hear from more peeps about their temps, 155 vs 163.

I can tell you from my experience the 163 Pro runs a bit cooler than the 163 Axys... I can also tell you ice storm scratchers are amazing, once I got those. And yes, I just added a 3 foot mtntk cooler to my sled, so far so good but of course it isn't spring conditions / hard trails yet...

Not exactly what you asked but we have an 18, 19, and 20 all 155's 2.6's except my 19 with a 3" belt drive. We all run really close to the same temps no matter what the conditions are. Two of them have SLP stage 3 and one a stage 2 and we all still run the same temps.
