Between a 2003 polaris 600 rmk 144 inch track all stock except a sno stuff can, and a 1999 polaris 700 rmk 136 inch track all stock. How do these two sleds compare boondocking, climbing, and mainly moutain riding, any input would be great thanks.

Similar power, but the 600 will have the advantage in throttle response and track and the Edge chassis is an easier chassis to ride with taller bars and better seat.

My '04 600RMK (660) is the funnest sled I've ever owned day in and day out.

the 600 will be a little quicker and snappier. the edge chassis is easier to throw around and doesn't way as much.

i disagree with sled_guy though, i think the seat on the 99 is much more comfortable.

switching between an edge and a gen 1 or gen 2, the edge takes a lot less effort to ride. the 600 will be a fun one.

I must disagree. Haveing both a 2003 EDGE 800 and a 1999 RMK 600, I can tell you now that the EGDE is by far the heavier machine. The GEN 2 (1999) is easier to ride and layover due to its narrower front end. My 99' is 44" wide from outside to outside, I have not measured the EDGE but it is wider sitting on the trailer. On another note, the machines are equal the 700 has a the big motor but small track, the 600 has small motor and big track. I would go with the 600 w/ 144" rather than the 700 w/ 136" just because when dealing with the tracks 136"-151", longer really is better. I have watched a piped 2001 RMK 800 w/144" get smoked by a stock 2001 Summit Highmark 700 w/151". As far as stock seats go, they both blow, get the 600 and throw on a BOSS seat ($488) and SLP perfromance edition package ($1905) and you should be golden.

I had the 99. It was a strange year, kinda in between the old Indy's and the newier RMK's. It had the new gen II front, but old back. I didn't like the one piece seat/tank combo and switched it out for next gen one tank/one seat style setup. It was tough to do though. The Edge is a better chassis. The good thing about that 600 is that there a a bunch of big bore kits and other mods for it. The 700 was bullet proof for me!
