I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about rear suspension on the 850...

- My last sled was a 15 163, with Ice Age Bomber Rails, "Fat Boy" springs, and Elka shocks from Tom.

- I'm 250ish with gear, pack, etc.

-I have a 18 165 showing up

-Ride Central WA, Sicamous, McCall

- Prefer tree riding and boondocking. Have to ride trails in.

...I'm interested in going to a BETTER rear suspension. Does anyone have thoughts on components to do so?

I see Zollinger has a "Zmotion" rear relocation bracket for 155 bucks.

I see ZBros has a conversion kit for 650ish.

I see Raptor has a drop in for 1400ish

http://www.raptorshocks.com/store/products/ACE-(Fits-146,-154,-163-&-165-track-length).html

I see that Knod has a complete kit for 2650ish.

I see Next Tech has a skid. Couldn't find price.

... any thoughts on these? Any others? Anyone have seat time on these, OR others?

I have the stock shocks revalved and sprung, with the freeride rear suspension shock by enzo.

Fox makes a nice coilover shock and so does raptor.

Found it! I was trying to find it Z Bros.

... to those that have done this reloacation bracket, was there a noticeable difference?

You realize it's exactly the same as drilling a hole farther back and moving the stock bolt?
An L shaped piece is still just connecting two pivot points like a straight piece.

Been doing it to sleds for years to stiffen the rear and help tame the wheelie.

It definitely works.

Don't forget about Tom's. That's what you were riding on my 165 in McCall. He is coming out with a billet rear piece as well for this year. I am going to be running that on my NA and running the Tom's with Skinz ARC on my turbo.

unfortunately there is NO room for a new hole...
plus the ride height stays stock and the rail stiffener is a bonus...

I rode on a set of Raptors last year and have a ACE kit ready to try this year. I was quite happy with the setup last year, valving/springs were spot on. As I'm going to the ACE kit, I have a spare set of relatively low mile Raptor rear drop ins I'll likely part with this year.

When I came home with my brand new 2017 Summit X the first thing I noticed was that I was not able to get the machine off my sled deck as the snow flap was under my track, while attempting to back down the rear suspension had collapsed. During the beginning of the season I tried a number of different ideas installing spring spacers helped a bit, but the suspension just didn't work the way I was used to. I had a Kmod on my Cat so I removed the unit, had Kevin rebuild the rear arm and supply the K-motion, then installed the Kmod skid and installed a set of Raptors in the front(the rear skid has the Raptors). Installing the Kmod and front Raptors was the best thing I could have done to my 154 Summit X.

I ran a 165 last year. I weigh in at 200 w/gear. I installed the exit torsion delete and really liked it. It's very smooth and never collapsed. The one thing I really don't like on skidoo is tmotion. IMO it's time for skidoo to offer Mountain sleds without it. I didn't want to just run spacers in the stock tmo so I sold the exit setup and bought a full raptor setup with the tmo and torsion delete and ice age rails. I usually run the limiter strap out 1 hole from factory so the front end is nice and light.
. I can't say enough good about this setup. Super smooth and way more predictable that when it had tmo. It actually takes less effort to ride. Several of my friends with 850's rode my sled and couldn't believe how much easier it tipped and held an edge with the only difference being the rear suspension.

Anyone else have feedback on the zbros coil over/torsion delete kit? I am thinking of going that route as it seems to be best value. Would love to find used kit as I don't have much $ to spend on sled this year.

So waiting for all the parts... but this year I’m going to try out:
1-Elka stage 4 (3200$ CAN)
2-Z-motion (Zollinger Racing) 155$
3-T-motion torsion spring spacers 45$ (Hygear suspension)

Start by leaving the T-motion (without lock out) and limiter in original 3rd position.
I’m 155lbs

I’ll keep you posted on the changes! ... but all the parts are going in at ones.. so hard to say what does what.
