I'm looking at the "ultra-zoom" (I think they're called). Not quite the all-out DSLR, but more than the point-and-shoot. DSC-H2's the one I'm eyeballing.

If you want something ultra convienent, look at a Sony DCR-SR300 or the like. It is a digital video camera and a 6.1 MP still camera in one that doesn't use tapes. All on hard drive or you can add a memory card for the pictures. It takes great pics, I am super happy having the combo instead of carrying 2 all of the time. Attached is a pic I took with it in Yellowstone.

Just picked up a sony a300 with 18-70 and 75-300 lens for $599 at bestbuy. I like it so far, very easy to understand menus and great pictures.

That is a highly rated camera, and is made in Japan, a rarity these days.

XSi is the good one to get, because of the SD card that it uses.

I have also been looking at Panasonic LX-3, and a Canon G10

Those are the three picks for me right now, and range from $400-650.

I am (foolishly) hoping that my LX3 will be here in a few days, but it doesnt look good. Sold out everywhere...

Veedy recommended the G10 and the Rebel XSi, too. G10 is a little bigger and the Rebel is an SLR.

Decisions, decisions!
