Hey

A buddy is stuck in the woods, his summit 850 pull start cord broke. He doesn't have his manual with him.

I called the dealer for him and they said the new gen 4 sleds doesn't have the option to do an emergency start with a cord.

Is that true?

You can start with the cord. Its in the tool kit. A strap or belt will work too. Actually you can start most etecs by hand if you're careful.

I would love to see someone pull it by hand. Not enough room in there for my hands.
Like he side rope or strap.

I've done it on an XP by hand which has way more room. Haven't done the 850 but thought about it. Could be done in a pinch.

Sorry for a slight derail here, but how can a recoil break on the first ride?
Doo has been building snowmobiles with recoil starters longer than I've been turning good air to bad air! A recoil starter should be more reliable than the loyalty of a German Shepherd.

I was the guy stock in the woods yesterday, I just turn the emergency cord around the rubber part of the primary. Roll the cord tight and then pull it clockwise, it worked with ease.

I crank it 4-5 times with ease and was able to finish my day.

Ill bring it to my dealer today...

To much grease on assembly and the pawl stayed out and got ground off.

Skidoo has had recoil problems since 1999
Its still the same problems...........

Plastic components that rely on friction to activate.
Factory grease is usually excessive.

Just keep a spare in the trailer and be good to go.

Its never worth attempting to fix one. It will just self destruct the next ride out.
New with a grease wipe off.
