It should stay in reverse on it's own, check the adjustment of the linkage, it sounds like the linkage adjustment is too long. AC uses a gauge which is inserted in the bottom of the chaincase to check the linkage travel from forward to reverse. It can be done without the tool with vernier calipers but you need to know the measurement. An alternate way is to compare another sled or remove the chaincase cover and measure the travel of the gear. I wouldn't use reverse till it's fixed or you risk damaging the gears.

Thanks for the info. Did exactly like you said and you were right on , linkage was too long. I knew this was the right place for expertise.
