is there anyway to repair a tear in a track?
hi temp, flexible rubber epoxy? or something"

my 2.6 track has a tear at the base of a lug on the outer row. it clearly starts at the base of the lug, like the lug was folded over and it tore.

Of course Polaris won't warranty it. they say, "that appears to be a clean cut as opposed to a manufactures defect....some sort of trail debris caused it."

ideas?

don't really want to buy a new track at this time.
If I end up getting a new track, will a 3" fit on an SKS with bulkhead cooler? I know I will need new drivers.... 7 tooth or 8?

thanks

Cut it off.

One lug won’t be missed

Thats a little worse then a torn lug, thats a tear in the belting. I have had a similar issue on a track that had several torn off lugs. I decided to keep running it. I did a little sewing to hold the cut together so if wouldnt get torn further. I used Kevlar fishing wire. Ran it about 500 miles like that and it never got worse.

I stitched one with wire torn just like that.
Ran another 2000 miles no issues.

(Oh and you definitely hit something. :)

how do you stitch the track with wire?

If I were to end up replacing the track, which would be the best way to go:

replace with 2.6
replace with 2.5 challenger

or go down the whole change driver route and get somthing like a 2.8 or x3?

Individual loops and twist.
Every 3/8” or so. Pre-Drill with a 1/16” - 3/32 bit

Cut the lug off 1/2” tall.
(To lessen stress on the stitches)

I'm gonna give it a shot.

that tear is in the path of where the upper idler wheel runs. I assume not to put a stitch where the wheel runs?

You won’t notice a difference if you put it directly on the idler.

But sure. :)

I would think if the twisted wire is on the outside and the wire was smashed flat against the track on the inside it would not damage the idler.

will it lead to premature idler wear?

Dude....Your overthinking this by about a factor of 10!

The smooth wire running across the idler wheel will be fine. you ever seen a track few a few hundred studs in it? The head of many of those studs are running across an idler wheel.

This only becomes an issue if your running Billet aluminum idlers....which im guessing your not.
