Personally think the 3" trenches more with the 155" specifically. I have two friends with them and I have a 2.6". Talking with most Backcountry pro's they will differ to the 2.6". Only guy I know choosing 3" is Matt Entz, he gets the 174" and Chris Brown at Ride Whistler. He prefers the 3" 162".
Good rider will make any size work though haha. Sometimes that's half the fun!!

The 3 inch may trench more but that is because it is getting more traction. It also wheelies more so you have to set the suspension up tighter in the rear, I think the three inch is more of a Fun Factor. You can also trim the outer lugs down to make it work better in all snow conditions.

If you like to wheelie and do hop overs, get the 3". Have ridden both a fair bit.

The 2.6" is great too tho...feels quicker/faster/snappier.

Has anyone riding coastal snow cut down a 2.6 like a lot of us did on the earlier pro tracks?

I cut my outer lugs down on my 2.6 to about 2.4 and it works amazing in the sping snow! in doesn't wash out as easy and cuts straighter and more controller sidehilles! Mine is a 163 2.6.
