Low Altitude Clutching

Picking up my 13 Pro leftover this week and the dealer said they come from the factory clutched for 6000 plus feet of elevation, I will be riding 2000 - 4000 ft. what will my clutching be like at that elevation ?

Overrev. It takes about 10 minutes to change weights and they are not much $. I would change them for sure, huge difference.

There is a chart in the owners manual that shows proper wt for various elevation ranges. I just changed my 10-58 for 10-62. It is really simple. Just search YouTube for videos.

Is 58 or 62 stock ? Now I'm up in the air over the 66 or 68, I see you ride as low as 500, we never ride lower than 1700 ft. and the highest is 3800, geez are they that touchy ? What do you mean by rev limiter, is there and electronic limiter on the motor that makes it break up at at a pre set limit like on a drag car? Coming from a Rev XP Summit so pardon all the questions Polaris is new to me.

62s have been stock in the past. Touchy is relative - depends on your weight, your particular sled, etc. You can try it with 68's and see if you underrev, after breakin. If you are going to ride the sled at different elevations, the investment in changing weights yourself is well worth it. Easy to do on a poo, limited tools needed.

What is overrev on these motors, is there a sweet spot I'm looking for?
Besides watching the tach will I be able to hear it, is there an actual limiter ?

By the way I'm 170 lbs. if that helps.

The rev limiter is somewhere around 8450 or 8500... not quite sure.
The sweet spot your looking for is in the range of 8000-8200 depending on how you like things set up.

The pros tach has a record feature that is awesome for dialing in your clutching. You won't see it hit the limiter though. the motor reacts faster than the tach reads, but it will feel almost like a cut out/burble in the fuel map as it picks right back up once rpm drops below the limiter. I thought it was 8600, but have been wrong before. IMO you should clutch to 8300. 8100ish is the peak torque of the motor, while peak hp happens at 8300.

8525 rpms is the rev limiter

a stock 2013 needs 68's not to overrev at close to sea level. If you want the real bang we sell a clutch kit for $275 that works amazing at our elevations.

So is the part number 10-68 ? Are Cat and polaris weights the same, i found some 1068 weights on e-bay that are advertised as bushed 10-68 weights for Polaris/ Cat ?

No, they are a series 10 weight coming in at 68 grams.

If a polaris bushing is removed from a polaris weight, the arctic cat weight pin slides through. But the profiles are different between the two makers of weights.

10-68 is a Polaris weight....that is commonly used in older Cat clutches as well.
I would also keep an eye out for 66's since you are not near sea level. We ride about the same altitude and they go 64 or 66's around here. I shoot for 8200 on a deep climb.

If you're above 3k feet more often then 10-66 will be more useful, agree with WB

But you may have to baby it down low to stay off the limiter

Yes. This!

Chad (IQRIDR) clutched my '12 Pro. Immediate difference in mid-range performance (where I spend most of my riding)

I'm at 1,200 ft and I am running adjustable weights with close to the same profile as the polaris weights and I'm running 8100-8300 with 70g weight. The rpms will change with snow conditions and how heavy you are as a rider. I hope this helps.
