How much life is left in your opinion in a 15 m8000 with 4400 miles. All tree riding, always dealer maintained (for what it's worth), new clutches 300 miles ago, recent tune-up/check-up & warranty until 2019.

Depends on the price. I look at sleds like I look at Motorhomes, there's so many with low miles why buy one with high miles unless it's dirt cheap. Not too many people looking to buy one with 4,400 when there are ton's with around 1000.

It is quite a bit cheaper. By about $1500-2000 compared to low mileage 15's. I wouldn't be looking at it if it was without the warranty.

What you save in price difference on the high miler will probably cost you more in break downs and repairs.

With that many miles, i would repack or replace every bearing on the sled. I have lost a drive shaft bearing and rear axle bearing. U can't drive out when they go!

If you can wrench on your own sled then go for it. If your going to have to have a dealer perform all the preventative maintenance it'll need, I'd look elsewhere

It would need to be under 6K for me to even consider it. You're gonna have $300 in a new top end. Every Bearing here shortly. I've seen 15's for as little as 7K with closer to 1500 miles.

Here is my dilemma guys: this upcoming winter will be my first season riding the mountains. I don't know how often I will be able to ride. That makes me a bit reluctant to spend a bunch of coin on the sled. Although I would LOVE to have the latest and greatest. Also I think the release of the long awaited 800 ctec will cause the current newer sleds to lose in value. My thinking is buying a cheaper sled will cost me less dollars in lost re-sale value. But then I don't have to garage to work on the sled and popping open the chaincase or doing topend rebuilts outside does not sound appealing to me. Can you tell I'm torn? :(

Well you said it yourself. You don't have a garage. This sled should be off your radar.

Sounds like renting a sled this year might be the best option. If you don't know how much you're even going to be able to ride...?

you would be crazy to spend coin on a sled with 4400 miles. Engine could of been overheated bad and could cost you thousands to replace. I'm in Canada as well , seen 2014s with 200 mile going in the 7range. Red deer Cycleworks was blowing out new 2015 limiteds 162 last week for 8900 $ plus tax. If you buy a sled this season , buy the best one right off the bat and get out and ride and enjoy as much as you can. A 15 will last you a long time . Let other ppl get the bugs out of the ctec once it comes out.

For what it's worth I sold my 2014 162 with a ton of extras( jaws single pipe, 3" powerclaw, 36" front end, a never ending list really)
The sled has 4000 miles on it and I let it go for 5300 Canadian last spring, I had zero interest in the sled locally and had to ship it to the states to make the sale. I'm not sure what the 15 with 4400 miles is selling for but I wouldn't pay a dime over $5000

asking price is 6200CAD.
I think catman8000 is right. Buy a 15 with low mileage and see how far it will take me. (Before I get the itch to upgrade to whatever new comes out in a couple years):face-icon-small-hap
