Is it possible to narrow the ski stance on the Gen 2's?

You didn't say what model you've got. Assuming an XC. You can easily go to 38" with the 99 RMK setup for example; need the RMK belly pan for outboard T/A's, outboard T/A's, radius rods, steering link., RMK length shocks, etc...Good luck

yes I have a 99 xc, I cut the end off the bottom of the spindle where the bolt goes through and put that chunk on the other side. it took 2 inches off the stance just buy doing that!
