Well I just couldn't wait and decided to buy a new ram ecodiesel in the laramie trim. I pick it up tomorrow and will post pics and give a better review. I don't recall anyone on here having one yet so I thought I'd start a little thread.

Initial impressions on the test drive are that its similar in power to a 5.3 chevy just driving around. I'm coming from a 12 ram big horn so of course the interior is a pretty large step up. I'm not sure if the other diesels do this but if you need to wait to start it won't let you override that. Mine has "Key and go" so it doesn't use a key in the ignition but if you get in and push the start button it automatically waits until its ready... and then cranks the engine on its own when the light goes out.

I really curious to get a trailer behind it and see how that goes. I'll post pic tomorrow but any questions feel free to ask.

Dealer told me they are getting some reports of 30+ mpg hwy. Does yours have the air suspension?

Good luck with your purchase. Did you research VM Motori's other diesel engine offering in the US before making this purchase?

Someones gotta try it. lol

5yr 100000 mile warranty, should know if its a pile before that's up.

No mine won't have the air suspension. It's actually a somewhat "basic" version of the Laramie. No sunroof. No rambox.

I've done some research on the engine. There is some talk about injector problems but the research that I've seen shows that the ram version uses a Peisso (sp?) sourced injector which is higher quality than previous suppliers. From what I've found there is very little bad info on the actual motor. Time will tell.

Keep us updated on the fuel mileage. Interested in whether or not it will be good enough to get me out of my 3/4 ton diesel

Few pics real quick. So far with some real spirited driving around town the read out says 23.1. I'll be taking a 500 mile trip this coming weekend so that will be a real test of the mileage.

That is what they all say and when it doesn't they tell you that they have had customers that it was 20-25000. The real story is they get what they get out of the gate and then get worse as yeas go on.

I'm pretty pleased so far. The driving style I was using would have had me in the 14-15 range in my hemi so 23 is a big improvement. I paid 43k otd. You can get the 6'4 box in a crew cab now as well.

Wow on the fuel mileage. Is it an I6 also? What is the displacement and torque rating? I've got an 06 Ram 1 ton that I've owned since new, only has 35,000 miles, love the tuck but very sick of the mileage. Thanks!

Almost bought the same pickup for my wife a couple weeks ago. We drove it for about 120 miles, and didn't baby it much, the average mileage went from 19.2 to 21.8 in our time with it. The torque is pretty impressive for only being rated at 420lbft. I drove about 12 miles of flat interstate at 79 and the mileage never dropped below 28. For towing a boat, small camper, sled trailer I think they are gonna be a great seller

The truck has the 4 speed auto and 4.10 gears, non-dually, short bed. I've been happy with it but I seriously spend more on diesel to get me to the trail head than I do on the sleds once I'm there.

Apparently you need to get a turbo or some mods for your sled so you can always run race fuel and be breaking siwn
