By reading some topics, a few guys that got 174 t3s are going to the 154 this year. Saying they dont like tractoring around planted all the time.

I don't think trenching has as much to do with the approach angle as it does the suspension geometry and function.
Pro's float better than older sleds that had shallower approach angles.
KMOD skid floats better and it has a steeper approach angle than the stock skid (when the limiters are all the way out).
Obviously shallower approach floats better all things equal but suspension, chassis, and weight distribution play a bigger factor.

Have 2011 Etec XP that had a 163x2.3x16 that weight 63.4 fully clipped, now have a PC 162x3x15 that I clipped that now weights 58.4, also have a new T3 163 track that I am in the process of putting clips on but have not put on a scale,
The 3 inch PC changed how the sled works and responds, The XP has a Tryg

axys looks angled, front of skid sits off ground.
Be interesting to take those three sleds, put a 200 pound rider on them, bounce the sled to get sag, then see what those angles look like.
I always wondered why the Cats don't have a rounded approach like the others, the track is flat, makes a corner, then goes flat again. It is odd, and has been that way since 2012 at least.

Comparing a 2014 cat to 2014 pro the pro gets up on the snow significantly better and does not trench as bad. I think the rail angle and roundedness helps as well as the tips of the rails are longer toward the drivers. So far the 2.4" 5.1 track has worked better than the 2.6" powerclaw. IMO the 2.6" Axys track will be perfect for most riding.

Ski-Doo T3 155" - 457lbs 160HP (I've seen 155-163)
Axys 2.6" 155" - 408lbs 160HP (I've seen 150-168)
HP is hard to really say, but weight is weight. that's 46lbs difference at nearly the same HP. I haven't seen a T3 option for the Axys so I don't know how much more it will weigh. But Doo managed to put a T3 on without gaining weight.

Have yet to see any #'s from the Axys come close to 168 that is stock!!

Regarding the trenching, it's the combo of the skid - track - tunnel. Poo has the worst ride, but gets on the snow the best for the same length track, think that's not a coincidence. Doo 174 is getting close, which tells something, too.
The Pro has a larger fuel tank then the skidoo, with equal amounts of gas you can subtract another 6lbs from the Pro.
