MDS Clutching

I bought a MDS clutch kit off a guy who is going to turbo his sled so he couldn't use it anymore. The kit he gave me came with two springs one yellow and one black. He said the yellow one is for 6000'+ and black is 0-6000'. Does anyone know what the part numbers would be on these or how I find out?

don't know about yellow one but black one works well from 3-8k.Ran on 3 diff pros for 2 yrs

Im buying this set up tomorrow the kit im getting comes with two black springs one for our elevation and one for 5000 and up. I no they are both polaris springs i will post the numbers off them tomorrow. Also comes with the recommended weight settings for all elevations not sure if you got that or not.

I have the weight set up recommendations. The problem I'm having is the springs don't have a product number on them or anything just color...

The Team bright yellow primary spring has no markings on it. 120/340. Best thing you can do is call Steve at MDS 509-899-0605

I did the initial testing with Steve on the new Polaris weights. The yellow is a Team 120/340, the same in Polaris is a blk/grn. I used this spring with a PAR head w/13.1 domes, lots of low end torque. Running 68grams and riding 4-7000. The Polaris blk/wht(100/340) worked good on stock set up with 67grams. A touch softer engagement. With the yellow and a head, engagement should be around 4100-4200 RPM, with a 100/340 you are 3600-3800 RPM. The black spring you have is a Team 100/275. Have not used this spring as I never rode high enough to need it. I would run the yellow unless you are going to be mainly 7000 and up, or extremely deep snow at 5-6000, even then you should be fine with the yellow most of the time. 5 minute swap on the hill if you want to change. Steve is best call though for all your variables, rider weight, track length, conditions, placement of your total weight on the ramp, etc., he's great to deal with. Good luck, you'll love the weights, they pull hard!

Great info! My sled is bone stock, would engagement be around the 4100-4200 mark with it being stock or a bit higher?

I haven't rode a stock sled in a few years, I honestly can't remember, but I believe that around 4000 is close. I do remember the engagement being pretty firm with the stock spring and the MDS weights with the PAR head, and switching to the 120/340 brought it back to a more "normal feel".

Mine came with a 100/340 polaris, Seems alright. I have a blue pink slp at home i could try for a 140/340 or get a black pink for 120/340... not sure yet didnt really check to see my engagement rpm.


as for the weight if anyones wondering stock 800 with the 100/340

0-2000 - hex bolt with washer in tip, drilled bolt in mid 70.7g, if to heavy remove washer to get 69.9.

2000-4000 - hex and washer in tip - 68.2g

4000-6000 - button head bolt and washer in tip - 66.5g

6000-8000 - drilled bolt in tip, 65g

8000-10,000 - just weight no bolts.

I kinda worked that out my self and emailed steve and he said i got it haha so im assuming those are baselines, and you can add a heavier bolt no washer to add weight or remove a washer to lighten.

I was running at 1500 ft with the hex bolt and washer in tip and was revving 8300-8400, so i was a bit light. at 68.2g so im going to bump it up. Book states 8250 +- 250 but was told 8300 is perfect

Just my opinion here, but in my experience, if your revving at 8300-8400, if that's on firm snow I would leave your weight where it is. I too rev at that on the trail, sometimes even bumping rev limiter at times, but when in 2' of new powder, it pulls hard and constant at 8150, and from research and talking with engine builders that know, the PRO seems to be building it's most HP at 8100-8150 according to Dyno numbers, Above that the HP falls off on the backside of the power curve. I've always been accustomed to 8250 as target. It seemed weird clutching for 8100, but I've had better results there than at 8250 or higher. Could be my sled but works really good for me. yah a friend told me to 8300s perfect but im sure i seen 8500 on my ride, i know i did see 8400. Im going to see what steves recommendation is like because im weighted for 2000-4000 ft now at 1500 ft. if its too heavy just a couple minutes and its back.

Well my sled ran flawlessly pulling 8300 rpm. Then i figured out how to turn it to 91 octane and im running 8500 rpm again. So i turned it back to eth mode and im gonna have to talk to steve again.
