In need of fuel pump

I'm experiencing some loss of fuel at WOT after a length of pull, either down a long road or on a steep hill. I put the gauge on the schrader valve and show 53#. Specs are 58-60# I believe. I have pulled the pump/pickup and checked that everything looked visually fine.

Any reason to drop over $500 for the Polaris unit with the intake or would a pump only replacement work fine?

I am finding two options:

Obviously some price difference, but a heck of a lot cheaper than OEM with all the giblets.

I assume you’ve replaced the filter? Maybe replace the sock in tank as well even if it looks fine.

I have been changing the fuel filters out about every 600 miles.

No "sock" in the tank. It has two pickup points that act as back-flow valves. When I pulled the unit out of the tank, they were holding fuel.

No sock in tank?! Wow I’d imagine you’d have to have some filtering before the pump. Maybe it fell off and is in the tank? What’s he diff between those two pumps in your links? Im cheap so there’s no way I’d give polaris $500, I’d go with one of those two options

Sorry VB, I've got no experience either with this particular application but I'd be willing to try the jobber pump cause damned if I'm going to give Polaris $500 for the assy.

Not sure what problem you're having but I wonder if 53 PSI is actually low enough to cause an issue. I know you mentioned the specs. were 58 - 60 PSI but sometimes you can get away with lot less than factory specs. before you notice a runnability issue.

Just a thought.....

I fibbed a little. This is a Carl's 660.

It happens when I have been WOT for a period of time and acts like it is dropping a couple injectors (or something) and I have to back out of the throttle and give it a chance to catch up again. Going up the road isn't a big deal but climbing isn't always done at the most opportune time. I'm thinking 52-53# is a possibility as to why it starts to fall down at WOT.

I have at least one complete pump available, everything that installs into the tank.

I have at least one take out that I'd let go fairly cheap as I'll never use the older style pump again. Everything I own is the MY'13 and newer pump. PM if you'd like to entertain a full replacement.

Does the pump look like this ?

From what I can tell... the **404 designation pumps are only rated to 36psi... you need a 58psi pump.
GSC404... 80 ltr/hr (21 gal/hr) at 250 kPa (36.25 psi)

The one that SRX posted up on amazon is a better fit.


BTW... What voltage are you seeing at the pump with it running off the sled?

Disassembled:

Pump looks like either the F20000286 or F20000107 from the link that MH supplied (I'm assuming it is actually the same picture).
I'm curious here though, as they are the same pressure but significantly different volume pumps.

Not going to hurt to use the higher flow pump.... It will draw more amps though as it will push more fuel through the system... with the regulator at the end of the line keeping the fuel pressure at the set pressure.

Are you sure the Voltage is good and the FPR is good for the 58 PSI (4 bar) ??

I just pressed the pump out of its carrier. F20000286

I was not sure how to verify the pressure of the regulator.

I also tested the output of my transformer that I used to test the pump. 17.5V and as stated, 10.4 watts.

Maybe I'm chasing the wrong symptoms.

I cut a male end off an old fuel filter, and welded the filter end shut. I could then insert this in the return line to the tank. 12V juice off my pickup and the pump pressure hit 80-100psi immediately. Take the line plug out and install back to the tank and it would run about 60-61 psi.

Hooked back up for the sled to run, and it showed 59 psi ( osculated while running at idle, but 59 when I shut it off).

If this is checking out, I'm not sure how to check the voltage/amperage to the pump at WOT.

I am running SPI filters. Any chance they are flow restrictions at WOT?
