1. Just wondering what you guys are doing for clutching on your 16's with the team setup. I'm mostly interested in what would work for the 5000-8000 ft elevation range.

2. Also wondering about gearing. I know a lot of people say that you can fit an 8 tooth with about 1/4" to 3/8" clearance. Thoughts on that? And what would you do for a gear ratio if it was an 8 tooth, and also a 7 tooth in comparison. I like having a snappy low end as I tend to stick in the trees, but we all like to climb at some point so I want to make sure I have enough track speed to do so.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Good questions, I have not received any real answers from the companies that sell kits and will not buy something unless it makes sense. I feel the clutch works well for our elevation. The main thing is to gear up I'm running 21,49 gears. The stock spring lost it's spring force so I change the secondary spring to a speedwerxs 180-240.

Do your gearing first and see where you land on rpm. Then do your clutching. It's a lot less work to just do gears in the chaincase than do 8-tooth drivers.

Gearing with 8 tooth driver

2016 M8000 153" Anybody try 8 tooth driver with 20/49 gears? Or what are you running for gears with 8 tooth driver?

i would not run 8 tooth drivers with a 3" track the compressor factor of the tunnel to track overcomes the benefit of the larger drivers. if you have a 2.6 then 8s are the way to go

i feel that a 2.33 ratio is the best gear ratio for a stock 800 with 8's
i have ran as high as 2.25 and i started losing track speed on hills.

the stupid low gears that cats come with was a band aid for crappy clutches. if you look at the polaris they are closer to 2.0/1

speedwerx 125-310 primary with adapter
gears 2.45 20-49 is what i found i like the best if you go 2.33 you loose a bit of the bottom end punch your looking for.

put this number into amazon 520904 and you can get a full hyvo set for 155.00

Gearing with 7T drivers

So staying with the 7T drivers, is 49/21 gearing the way to go @ 6 to 9k feet and the 3" track? Does that high gearing load the motor too much before getting to the 7T drivers? Trying to decide what changes to make in the off season, as the stock 50/19 gears are too low with 7T drivers. I am looking for more track speed.

Helix change??

When re-gearing, are helix changes needed? My 16 LTD currently runs a 48 degree helix; Is that due to the factory low 50/19 (2.86:1) gearing & 7T drivers? My '10 M-8 with 2.65:1 gearing & 8T drivers runs a 36 degree helix.

The 48° helix is because of the secondary, if u were to run a cat secondary u would probably still use a 36°.

Myself and countless others run 3" tracks and 8 tooth drivers, I'm using a 2.52 with my belt drive witch is close to 20/50 gears

clutching and gearing

We changed the clutching a lot of them from stock. We like to change the helix and driven spring to improve backshift and throttle response in deep snow. We also change the primary spring and use our ProShift weights. We do have a preset setting for the weights. Full kit is only $279.

I like to run 21-49 gears with the 7 tooth drivers. We just some in and I will be adding them to the website today I hope.

Another easy bolt on is our Y pipe. It adds 7 hp and 4 lb/ft of torque in the mid range and 3-5 peak depending on the rpm, and had a much broader powerband than stock from 7800-8300 rpm. You can really feel the nice power gain it produces. Stainless steel and only $149.
