New race series coming to the Midwest!

After the success of the 2015 Midwest Extreme Snowmobile Challenge promoter Cor PowerSports announced last month that they were exploring expanding the Midwest Extreme Snowmobile Challenge for 2016. After finalizing the format for 2016 it was announced that they will be expanding the event into a series that will be called the Midwest Extreme Snowmobile Challenge (MESC) Triple Crown series. Cor PowerSports has been a cross country series promoter for the past 4 seasons and 2016 marks this 5th year so they wanted to do something big to celebrate that and this new Triple Crown series is a great way to cap off a great winter of racing and riding.

The MESC Triple Crown, scheduled to start at the conclusion of the 2016 cross country series in Mid-March, will consist of three spring race events: Terrain X, Hillclimb and Hill X.

Terrain X -- This new snowmobile racing format will take place on a course designed like an old-school motocross course but run entirely on a ski hill about 2-3 miles long. The event will feature a two-moto format with a combined finish for an overall winner. Moto’s will be timed +2 laps.

Hillclimb -- This repeat event will continue to follow the standard of hillclimb racing set by Rocky Mountain States HillClimb Association (RMSHA). The courses will be designed to have great flow, challenging obstacles and fun elevation changes.

Hill X -- Although this sport has been declining in popularity recently, it still has a huge following of racers in the Midwest who are looking for some good hillcross racing. Cor PowerSports will be taking some ideas used in the original hillcross series from years past, but it also plans to add a Midwest Extreme twist into the course design. Riders will face jumps, rhythm sections, turns, whoops, and possibly both downhill and uphill portions as well.

Here is the tentative schedule for the MESC Triple Crown:

Round 1: March 19-20, location: TBA
Round 2: April 2-3, location: TBA
Round 3: April 16-17, location: Lutsen Mountains, Lutsen, Minn.

Cor PowerSports is still finalizing what classes will be offered during the series, but there's sure to be something for everyone from junior riders to seasoned pro racers.

It would be nice if you could get one of the events closer to the west. Maybe the Black Hills or the Big Horns.

Also, what class would something like a 600 snocross sled that has been long tracked fall into?

Sorry about the delay in response, until mid summer I work with local youth golf stuff...

600 that has been stretched I will need to see if things changed in the 2016 rules; Improved Stock is good to go but not sure on stock.

The problem we run into is timing, most ski hills want to stretch their ski season so late here in the Midwest we have a VERY small window to get these races in...

That is why we use resorts like Lutsen, they are north enough that they still have great snow in late April!

I am still waiting on confirmation from the host sites for the other 2 rounds but plans are to have it all done by Hay Day's

Swing by our booth, EC1 for more info!!

MESC Triple Crown series updated info

We have finalized the format for the new Midwest Extreme Snowmobile Challenge (MESC) Triple Crown series that will start at the conclusion of the 2016 cross country series.

The MESC Triple Crown series will be a 3 race spring series consisting of Terrain X, Hillclimb, & Hill X.

Terrain X- This will be a new format for snowmobile racing; it will be on a course designed much more like an old school motocross course but run entirely on a ski hill, about 2-3 miles in length, a two moto format with a combined finish for an overall winner, & moto’s will be time +2 laps.

This new discipline will be very similar to motocross; it will be timed qualifying in the morning for gate pick, a two moto format, overall will be decided by the combined finish of the two moto's. The Sport class races will be 10 minutes plus two laps, Semi Pro 15 minutes plus two laps, and Pro will be 20 minutes plus two laps. The race course will be a 1.5-2 mile natural terrain course, no man made jumps or features; track will have minimal grooming for safety but otherwise it will be like motocross and the second moto will be a lot rougher than the first.

Hillclimb- This discipline will be same as it always has been but we look at RMSHA for the example of how hillclimb racing should be; courses will have a great flow, obstacles to challenge the riders, & of course elevation changes to make it even more fun.

Hill X- This is a sport that was in decline but still had a huge following of racers here in the Midwest just looking for a place or series to offer some good hillcross racing. We will be taking some ideas used in the original hillcross series from years past but our Midwest Extreme twist into the course design. Riders will face a course with jumps, rhythm sections, turns, whoops, and possibly some downhill portions as well as uphill.

Working on class structure this week but we announced Monday that Snow Bikes will be added to the show for all 3 disciplines!!

Here is the tentative schedule for the MESC Triple Crown as of today:
•Rd 1 March 19-20 TBA
•Rd 2 April 2-3 Blackjack Resort, Bessemer, MI
•Rd 3 April 16-17 Lutsen Mountains, Lutsen, MN

It would be nice if you could get one of the events closer to the west. Maybe the Black Hills or the Big Horns.

Also, what class would something like a 600 snocross sled that has been long tracked fall into?

Right now our focus has been on where a majority of our racers come from for locations but as the series grows I am sure we will be expanding west some more.

That sled would fall into Imp Stock or Open
