We have ridden both here. Kind of hard to compare the two since one is a shell and one is a insulated piece. For the out west riding that we do, it was way to warm. Although it is only 100G of Thinsulate, you can definitely tell the difference. The other thing that we noticed, and were not thrilled on is only having a 1/4 zip on the leg opening rather than all the way to the hip. So you must put the pants on before your boots. To some people that may not be an issue but to some it is. The other things that the Kinetic does not have that the Freeride does, is no pockets, and no knee protection. Thank you for the info! I thought someone was going to say that they would be too warm

If you are riding in the mtn's, that is kind of a given that they will be too warm. That is why we noted that it was not really a good comparison because one was insulated and the other was not, but the other features are really what sets the pants apart, other than the insulation.
