What goes into a 310hp MCX Apex?

I have seen the ads by MCX installers stating horsepower numbers of 240-260-290, all on pump gas I assume. But what is done to get it to 310hp? Simple as fuel>>race or mix vs pump? Turbo/boost control mod. Engine mods such as pistons & rods? Not so much using Nitrous or meth. Is there a 310HP kit from MCX that can run safely all day on pump fuel?

well the apex 310 is just the kit install it, and fuel it up at the pumps and go. The nytro 310 is usually done with rods and pistons with the 270 flashed box. Limits at about 18 lbs depending on your A/F ratio is, different boost control must be used. I've heard of guys running pump gas on this setup.

No, 100 LL minimum for a 310 HP Apex. I wouldn't trust much over 200 hp on pump fuel unless the fuel control system was aggresively retarding the timing. Good fuel is cheap insurance when pushing the kinds of boost numbers it sounds like you're looking for.

The Apex MCX 310 kit is an upgrade from the original 12 psi (260 hp) pump gas kit. All that is reguired is a mcx ecm reflash, the external fuel pump, adjustable fuel regulator and fuel pressure guage. Minimum fuel reguirements for the 310 hp kit is straight 100LL av gas or 50/50 Vp c-12 and premium. The 290 hp kit is the newest kit for the Apex and is suppose to be good for pump gas, this kit has the larger mitsubishi 19T turbo and i am not sure what the max boost/hp is for this set up. Honestly anything over 12 lbs boost i would make sure you have good quality fuel.

By pump gas I mean premium 91. What do you recommend for 14 to 16 pounds @ 5000 - 7000 feet?

I have the 290kit. it runs like 10lbs at sea level. around 14lbs 7-8000 on premium pump. It self adjusts for altitude. If you want more than that you have to run better fuel. we have a 260 kit in our group and it runs about the same boost.(pump fuel). Mcx kits seem to be able to run a little more presure on pump than the other kits. julio

Yes pump gas would be premium. With the Apex and a .060" head shim and your intake valve closing @ 71.00 abdc you can run 17-18 lbs boost at 5000 ft on 95 octane. This is taken from the boost calculator off of totally yamaha's site. I run straight 100LL in my apex at 17 lbs. The Nytro has a different worksheet than the Apex. It is simple to use and lots of people use the worksheet as it has proven to be accurate.

Thanks for the replies.

So when you compare the 260/290/310 hp kits can you feel a distinct difference in turbo lag or boost (pulling at the shoulder sockets)?

Howdy neighbor....:D

Mine has the 310 kit. Includes mapping to 18 lbs I think, gotta run 50/50 prem/race, includes external fuel pump.

I am running at the "240" level, which means 12psi sea level on 91 octane pump fuel, and you go up from there. 7000 or so feet will have you turning up the boost roughly 3psi for 15psi gauge pressure (if you zero'd it at sea level) to maintain that roughly 240hp output level.

I don't run mine right at the 12psi absolute manifold pressure, maybe 1-2 psi less on the average. Sled is retarded fast as it is.....LOL...

I run my 260 kit on Shell 91. The sled runs like a top and dead reliable. Almost at the 8000km mark and all I do is gas and go ! It runs super clean with no burbles or hesitations. I will do a MCX again fo sho.

I've got a quick question... I've got a friend that is looking at an Apex with a McX 310 kit and he wants to run it a little lower then that on pump gas... more like the 260-290 kit. What's involved in doing this???

It's his first turbo sled and he wants to get use to it before he starts running it on race gas.

Thanks...

If it has a boost controller, just simply turn out the controller until 12lbs is acheived under full load. If it doesn't have an adjustable boost controller then he will need to adjust the length of the waste gate rod. He will need to lengthen the rod to achieve the 12 lbs boost. I assume he has a boost guage to read from.

Probably also just some lighter primary weights and a shockwave adjustment , dial back the boost, and give 'er. :D:D:D

Yes, I rode an Apex w/310 he had in Crowsnest. Met him on the hill, asked if we tried the Apex w/the 310. Was a great day riding and taking part in a small demo. Kept my interest and now I hope to soon join the boosted club.

Thanks again for the replies Snowwesters.
