Fuel Problems with XM's

Hello everyone, your help/experience would be much appreciated. I am running 4 XM's all '13 or newer, 3 800's and one 600. one 800 runs perfect.

Another 800 runs well but every 10th time you get stuck pointing uphill after burning 2 gallons of gas it will not start unless you get it back on the flat or pointing downhill, then it starts right up.

The 600, once it is below 1/2 tank it won't start pointing uphill and even kills when climbing something steep. Also sometimes it will not start until you lean it to the right.

The 3rd 800 is the most frustrating one, it still has 10% left to break in and it has the most issues, it runs perfect on a full tank. it won't start whenever pointing uphill once i burn 2 gallons of gas. It constantly dies whenever climbing a steep hill (and then won't start until on flat). After i burn about 2 gallons it won't exceed 7,000 rpms and runs like crap. Fill it up with fuel and runs perfect again.

I took the gas tank off the 600 and found nothing wrong, filters were clean, all gas lines in tank were snug...everything looked fine. Before i tear into the rest of them i would appreciate some help and direction. If 3 out of 4 of mine are having issues someone else has to have the same issue! All 800's under 400 miles, 600 has 2,000 miles.

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds almost like water in your gas but hard to believe with all 4 sleds

yes, one sled runs perfect on same fuel...and all of them run perfect when full. I brought it to dealer and he hooked up computer and found no error codes...and said he has never heard of any issues with fuel pick ups on Doo's. I have another buddy who had same issues with a '10 and found the line off in tank. I was hoping to find same problem but everything looked correct on the 600.

thanks again,

I took apart the 2 worst sleds, the 800 and the 600 and both had this issue on the attached pic. Not sure what it is, pressure reg? It's on the return side. Does anyone know about this and if it could cause an issue? everything else inside the tank looks right, all hoses and filters good. I appreciate the help, open to any other ideas.

The guys @ Star Valley Skidoo in Wyoming talked about this issue last year when we had a sled in during a trip. A couple washers and possibly longer bolts and you're back in business.

thanks, do you think this is causing my problems? Makes my wonder why it is only an issue after i burn a couple gallons and why it works fine with a full tank? Also why won't the machines start on an incline....I'm no mechanic, just want to figure it out so we can ride!

They make a plate to hold the regulator together mine did it last year and my brothers this weekend. There is a tech tip from Skidoo my dealer was able to look up.

10 pulls to start when hot and if you took the fuel cap off there would be pressure in the tank.

Teddy, the fuel pressure regulator is extremely important, what will happen in in your case is loss of fuel pressure (running bad) and loss of fuel pressure prime (hard restart)

Thanks everyone, i will take apart my other 2 sleds to see what i find, i'm really curious to see if the regulator is in place on the one sled that is running well. I will keep you posted.

update, i took apart the other two sleds that are running better and neither of them had the regulator 'popped out' so I'm confident this is the issue. Easy fix, just applied 1/4" washers, see pic

Think my sled is having the same issue. Wont start when pointed up an incline. Can somone tell me where the regulator is located and how to get to it?
