I prefer around 15°-20° and if it's 40° I usually am alarmed how fast I get hot and have to shed layers :face-icon-small-hap

It should run 120-125 running in deep snow. I start to needlessly worry around 140 even though I have seen reported temps much higher. The water coolant mix under pressure is good for ~265 before it boils.

The target is 120. If you start to go over 200, you need to cool it down soon. A bit above that and the engine will go into limp mode and attempt to cool itself down.

I like the 120-140 range... I do not like 180+... Can not remember exactly but I thought they go into limp mode somewhere in the 180-195 range and shut down shortly after that.

When is somebody going to make a tunnel box that has the bottom open to the exchanger so I can fill it with snow and keep riding until it all melts away?

I've a slush bag in the past.
It's basically A VERY heavy duty thick Ziploc. Can't remember where I got it. Has just a couple pencil sized holes so the cold water could run out and down under my seat.
I'd pack it full of snow it at the truck, strap it down and it would last a good 20 minutes. Really helped keep temps down on the way up the hill until I hit better snow.

Think if it as a big giant icepack that leaks.

Does anyone remember last season when we were talking about temps on the Axys.... I recall something about the ecu taking away 2-4* of timing when the temp hits 140, then the over temp protection kicks in somewhere around the 200 mark. I just remember it taking away timing as soon as it got slightly above the normal temp of 125. Eric

the axys pro still runs hot in marginal conditions. better than the pro-ride pro, yes.

i saw a pro hit 200*+ last year, early morning, hard packed trail snow with scratchers down.

my buddies sks at the same time was 137*

i bought the sks for the increased cooling. there are many times I ride when the snow is not the greatest.

On my Pro's I ran scratcher's down all the time unless 6" or more of fresh.Kept gauge always on temp,sled usually ran 125.
At 140 I'm looking for fresh snow or spinning track on trail in loose snow.160 I shut it down.
Late spring riding I use the onion bag packed with snow as mentioned above.

Plan on doing the same on 17 Axys Pro

For me and my riding conditions, I don't think I have ever gotten over 160. At that point I pull over, keep it running and get snow in the skid and on the tunnel. Doesn't happen a lot here in Colorado except on super cold days with no fresh snow and some spring days. The scratchers work well.

Seems that a lot of folks worry too much about temps. Your sled will let you know when it's getting too hot. The limp mode is over 200F. You'll probably do some damage to the engine when it reaches 400F, but the computer will shut you down and never let you get even close to that. Just ride it. If you get to 200F, find powder or throw snow on the tunnel. I've gotten to 200 many times on trails with no ill effects.

Easy cheap fix for overheating. Ski Z snow deflectors. Easy to install and remove as well as reversible. I can take them off and put them in my underneath bag and put them back on in less than 5 minutes. Where I was hitting 160 with just scratches, I would get it down to 125 to 130 with the deflectors on. It beats stopping to throw snow on the rails and on the tunnel. I think they cost around $60.
