02' Summit Highmark-X 800 engine advise

So, I just picked up an 02' Summit.

It has no engine. I have the exhaust, intake, carbs, ported cylinders, head, electronics, new clutches...

I dont have crankcase, oil pump, water pump, crankshaft, rods, pistons.

I have found a short block from the dealer for $1400, plus a $700 core since I don't have one.

Any other ideas or resources for either an assembled short block, or a motor I could build, using the cylinders I have?

Thanks

For $2100 you should be able to buy a complete ZX chassis sled. Thats what the 800's are going for around here anyways.

just go on ebay and buy a complete 800 engine out of a wrecked or parted out sled. Should be able to buy a complete engine for around $1000 then you can sell the parts, (cylinders, head, etc) that you have and dont need. If you do it right you can get all set up for a very resonable price.
here is one I found and I only looked for 30 seconds, there are many more. There are always several for sale on ebay.

Thanks, I hadn't looked on E-Bay. How many differences are there in the 800 motors, any years/ models that wont be compatible with the parts I have?

So, I see mxz800 motors, and 800r motors on e-bay. To use my existing parts I will need to find an mxz motor correct? What year range will work?

Thanks.

01 to 06 will work. 03 to 06 has a little better porting ( the H.O. motor) but the short block will still work.

Id sell you the core for a couple hundred but shipping from Alaska would make the deal not worth it.

You want to find a 800 engine from a 2001 to 2006. Like stated earlier the 03-06 are HO motors and have a little more power but otherwise the same. anyone of these years will work. You will want to use your electronics, which will fit on any year and sell everything else you dont need.

So, I found an 03' engine from an mxz rev 800. The owner states that it can be used on the 02' zx with a different stator. Stators dont appear to be cheap. Can anyone elaborate on the stator issue I would have with an 03 motor, and specifically what parts I would need to replace? I have the pick up assembly in my box of parts, but no stator plate from the 02'.

EDIT: So I see that the 03' and up use a different stator. Will an 02 stator plate, and pick up work on the 03 motor without having to change anything else?

Thank you

yes all of the stators are interchangable. The only thing that is different about them is the wire conectors are different. I would just get a 02 stator, then you will be ready to go.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks all for helping me with my 2 day crash course on learning about my new Ski Doo!

I ordered a service manual, a complete running 03' 800HO motor, an MCB dual ring piston kit, and an 02' stator. I will be swapping out the stator, and the carbs/intakes, and hopefully getting this thing going before spring!

I think all I am missing is a throttle cable, and a drive belt.

Get the spi extended throttle cable...from wps or parts unlimited...then you will be able to allways install bar risers...

they are around 16.00 to 18.00 over the 40.00 to 50.00 power madd or rsi end extentions

The sled has bar risers, and Renthal bar installed already. I may need the extended cable anyway. Thanks for the tip!

Any advise on the bottom end of this new motor? Running sled had 2,200miles. No idea if the motor has ever been gone through. My plan is to disassemble, visually inspect, and reassemble bottom end when I install the new pistons.

Anything in particular to watch for, or replace in the bottom end?

Not to much to look for other than pto and mag bearings for rough feel....when you clean and reinstall the crank get the isoflex from preccision spindle...here is the link...http://www.precisionspindle.com/snowmobilegrease.htm
you can get 2 tubes for the price of one....go with mcb duel ring pistons, they are on e bay in a kit with gaskets and bearings..

oh also i use thes guys on my crank work...or go to sea-doo clinic both are great peeps

Well the motor, and all my parts are here! I am going to start tearing this thing down today. All I need is the Isoflex grease, which should be here any day!
