When should a person refreshen the top end for a 2014 800 ? The sled runs awesome but its close to 4000 km.
My stock pistons were at the wear spec for skirt collapse at ~3500 miles. I put aftermarket dual ring cast replacement pistons in. ~1800 miles and they were a touch more collapsed than the OEM set. I probably advanced as a rider and put the aftermarket parts through more abuse, so not exactly a fair comparison. Neither sets ever failed, just reached service limits.A dealer I trust says if you're riding it hard by 4000-4500km the piston skirts will be starting to collapse. Be honest with yourself about how hard you ride it though. More importantly IMO check the crank runout. Compression numbers on the etec don't mean much.

Sounds like a misunderstanding or bad info from dealer. Right out of the service manual, deflection limit is 0.0024" on the PTO stub, 0.002" MAG. I would be thinking about fixing it.
