Cat offered it as an option, I have seen a few king cats with it. I really dont know what all has to be done, something with the chaincase. Go to google and find a online micro fiche and see what a reverse was in 2004. should be able to find part numbers and prices.

Yep, its a new gear in the chaincase and a lever that gets installed off to the right of your ignition switch. I've seen a guy with it on his 1M before and he said it wasn't expensive (i forget the price) and it works pretty well. The weight addition is negligible.

I installed reverse on my 03 900, you'll need a reverse kit for a 15 wide chain and a reverse handle kit.Took approx, 1.5 hours to install. Cat has a special tool for setting the engagement depth which is shown in the directions but it can be done if you measure the engagement depth before you install the cover then measure again through the opening provided for the special tool.

The Reverse kit has an auto adjuster that must be installed correctly and checked periodically. Also you must use AC oil and change it frequently to remove any shavings that are present.A friend has had a kit on his since new and has had no problems at all.

I Have Put 4 Kits On. No Regrets. Works Great. Use Manual Tensioner. Put A Magnet On The Cover To Remove Metal Filings. If Any ?s Call Me At Night Or Weekends Mike 402-740-1663. I Didn't Mount The Beeper. Just The Bracket For A Stop. Pull Cover Once A Year To Adjust The Chain. Takes About 40 Minutes Start To Finish.
