was wondering how many miles per gallon does an e-tec engine gets with hard riding in the mountains. riding with a lot of full open throttle. i have an 2004 summit 800 and on a good hard ride in powder i get 5-6 miles per gallon.with gas prices going up, i'm considering upgrading to e-tec and just wanted to know what they are getting miles per gallon.

At full throttle = same. Part throttle = half as much fuel with an Etec. You do the math with how you ride!

Actually the e-tec is better all the way through however when you ride wide open then your burning more fuel period, but the e-tec is far above the other sled and ptek motors for gas mileage.

We saw this on 600 etec vs 600 carb

Haven't had a fair 800 comparison, but from what I've read, eddy's findings sound more true.

Well on our first trip I was riding my 09 800r, and my brother was riding his 2012 freeride still in its break in period and at the end of every day he would burn $15-$18 less gas than me. Both riding styles are about exacylt the same, we are always battling with each other so fair comparison I think, but we will see on the next trip what it's like after break in period.

On a deep day I get between 8-9mpg with the '12 etec....older 800's I would see 6ish same area, same conditions, same type of riding.

If rising fuel prices are an issue for anyone in this sport than might be time to find a different sport. Even if you burn 200 to 300 gal a yr. Which I do. Thats 200 to 500 bucks a yr depending on how much fuel goes up. Cost me more than 200 bucks to go to the grocery store anymore. Just saying.... Might be time to buy some ski's lol!

i run a a/f gauge on the 800r motor and one on the etec, on average the etec runs around 30 percent less fuel than the older motor, running the trail you see 20 to 1 a/f lots with wot comming down to 13.4 to 1

the mid range is where most of the fuel is saved witht the etec, and that is where most of the day is spent riding

etec even in hard days with two feet of powder will do 120km/tank where you will see older doos and poos running out at 80k... it really is that much better

Hey Fred, very interested in your sled. Are you running a stock etec with the a/f guage? I have turboed my 12 etec and am going crazy trying to set my fuel. 18-20 a/f ratios everywhere other than wot. Then I am around the 12.5-13. Scares the crap outta me.

That being said, I run about 10mpg average in moderately deep powder riding. Did get down to 8 mpg on one very deep day.

Part throttle and cruising down the trail is where the e tech shines in efficiency

at full throttle in the deep they consume fuel similar to the carbed 800 xp

I run a turbo 4tech and when it is really deep my buddies etech will drain the whole tank before my sled does. This is riding side by side on long trips through the mountians.

On long trips (60+ miles) that are mostly trail leading to the mountians the e tech will burn about 2 gallons less fuel than the other 800R powered sleds in the group.

yes we had a a/f on a stock etec, and 16 and 18 numbers were very common, your numbers are in line, etec runs that lean, the number you care about is the wot number, i have done some long climbs at 13.5a/f and no problems, sweet spot is around the 12.9 to 13.3, any thing less than 12.3 and your lossing out in my opion

we were out with a bd turbo kit and he was running 11.9 a/f it was boggy and every number he got it leaner it ran better
