drop and roll

As far as I know, most do it for more clearance to run a taller track. If you do a drop & roll and change to larger drivers you can significantly improve (flatten) the approach angle of the track.

You can run smaller drivers to get more clearance too, and I think more people do that instead of a D&R (a lot easier). Changing to smaller drivers makes the approach angle slightly steeper (not much though), increases roll resistance at the front of the track (again, not that much), and smaller drivers are more prone to ratcheting if the track isn't adjusted tight enough. Changing driver size also throws off the accuracy of the speedometer/odometer. SLP has speedometer adapters for swapping from 9 lug to 8 lug drivers.
