it's a shame you ride with irresponsible BC partners, but a smart traveler has a shovel in his pack & has his pack surgically attached to his back!
I never understood why it was such a big deal till the first time I went pounding up a debris field & tossed my sled 3/4 of the way to the burial then took off running. no time to fish for your shovel in the sled.
There's a reason that EVERY avy professional out there says to keep it on you, not on the sled.
edit: btw, if you can fit your shovel in that tiny shovel pouch, I don't want you digging for me when the sh*t hits the fan!
