Just picked up 2004 Mxz renegade 800 ho. 3600 miles cheap sled is real good shape. But don't think the engine ever been rebuilt. Compression checked 120 psi both cylinders. Looking for your opinion Should I do a top end kit or not. It runs good starts good. Idles good. Run it or rebuild it

Fresh top end and true the crank, with 3,600 you just never know. I rebuilt them no later than 2,500

Usually we start seeing problems with those engines around 4000, that being said it also depends on how well the clutches are taken care of and style of riding etc. etc. Just keep in mind its cheaper to rebuild a running engine than one that blew up.

I work with a guy that had that exact same sled and he sold it with over 8000 miles and never touched the motor once in the 6 years he had it. Never even cleaned the carbs. He just always put sea foam in fuel every spring. Some people are lucky I guess.
