Snowest forum Military Snowmobile Ride :thumb:

I have noticed theres a great number of military past and present on snowest forums. I think its pretty cool. So I am putting together a ride for military members and dependants. They can be active duty, reserve, past, present or future. Dont have to necessary be part of snowest forums but just where I talk to majority of you at is on here.

When and where?
The ride is going to probally be scheduled for Dec 30th If not around that time frame. I want to keep the ride in between christmas and new years for the fact that be best way to try to get everyone together with time off at the same time.

Thinking about doing it in Island Park somewhere (possibly lakeside lodge near bills island) for a few reasons:
1. Easy location to get to and always good snow by that time of the year.
2. Mixed terrian and riding styles for everyone at all levels.
3. center location for most riders.

A couple interesting facts and fun things so far:
1. I talked to Geoff Dyer (PHATTY) from boondocker films and he is going to try and make it and bring a camera to do a little filiming.
2. If I can get enough people to go on this ride I was thinking of having a dinner and a raffle drawing afterwards with donations from dealers and business in the sled industry.

If you have any comments, ideas or questions you can PM me here or email me at slednecksoldier@gmail.com I hope to here back from a few of you on here. Thanks.

Sounds fun but will have to try for next year. I will miss it by a couple weeks from my trip home from the desert. Keep this going all. This is the stuff we all will remember and make lasting friends. Pray for snow. Thanks armysleder.

Allright grunts and airsupport dudes its time to get serious about this. I got Phatty from boondocker films coming with a camera. Were talking about going up in towards Jefferson from Island park or unless someone has a suggestion of a easier spot for them to ride in I.P. we will ride there.

I hope you have a good turn out ARMYSLEDER.
Can't make it this year but hopefully this turns into an annual thing and maybe make it another year.

Hey count me in. I'm in Rexburg and should have the new ride broke in by then. If not we'll burn the rest of the oil out.
give me a call and we could hook up for some other rides also.

I could go if it were a day or so earlier. I've already got reservations somewhere else for the 31-1. Let me know what you finally decide on and I'll do what I can to come. I ride with a couple active duty guys that would probably come with me.

Any updates on this ride.
We could start out from the Kilgore road run up over Reas Peak drop into Hell Roaring jump over the bread loaf ride around to the backside of Mount J and come back out the road trail til we can cut back up through casino(what we call that chute) and come right back to the trucks.
If you've got a better idea I'm all ears.

I was thinking of that for a fun ride> I did it a few years ago and it was fun and not too technical. Right now im trying to figure out who is all going and what level riders we got coming. So far though I think turbolover has a good ride location. Be some awesome pictures in that area too.

Dear Attendees,
Derek and I are looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday morning.
I have put together a short itinerary for us. Since we are starting the ride in Idaho we have decided to stay in Idaho to avoid complications of getting montana registration. Thus we will be doing the blacks canyon loop.

We will be meeting at the snow parking lot on the North Big Springs Loop Road in Island Park
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=island+park+village&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Here is a link to the snowmobile trail map. The Gold star represents where we will start from trail junction 32
http://www.islandparksnowmobiling.com/snowmobilingpictures/Island_Park_Snowmobiling_Map.jpg

Schedule:
9-10 AM Meet and Greet in Parking lot.
10 AM Presentation of Calendars/Videos to Active Duty Military Members.
10:15 AM depart for snowmobile ride.
12:30 PM lunch at Trail Junction 69.
2:30 PM return to Parking lot.

For those wishing to meet up with us or map out the loop ahead of time here are the trail junctions in the order. These correspond to the map i linked to above:
34,35,36,38,40,21,22,24,69,62,42,37,36,35,34,32

Feel free to take detours or split off from group as you see fit. We can in no way keep track of everyone so keep track of yourself, your buddies, and your little group. Please bring your beacon, shovel, and probe. Ride responsibly.

Look forward to seeing you all and having a great time!

Dec. 28, 2010--4 PM UPDATE--
W
e are getting a real DUMP of snow with up to 7" new at the Macks Inn area as of 2 PM today
--and, much more is on the way tonight and tomorrow.

Mid-winter conditions exist at all elevations.
Off-trail conditions are fairly "firm" on a settled, dense snowpack.
However, there are areas of "sugar" that you can spin down into, if you aren't careful.

==============
As of 7 AM--Dec. 29, 2010:
5 to 18" of light density snow fell in the area w/ 1.2" water in the last 24 hrs. along with WIND.
We have 6+ feet of pack above 9,000'.

Avalanche hazard is expected to be
to today, and will increase with any new snowfall.
Slabs persist along with layers of facets and some "depth sugar". See
NEW Hazard Scale below.

Remember--"Pockets" exist with a higher hazard than the area forecast.
