Extended Xtra 10 or Xtra-lite?

I have a 98 700 RMK, I want to go to a 144 track. Should I just extend my stock suspension or look for complete 144 suspension? Is there going to be alot of weight difference? Will a Xtra-lite perform that much better?

The X-lite is 10 lbs less than a comparable length X-10. I weighed them myself, so this is not "I heard on the internet..."

With so patience, you could probably find a 144 X-lite for the same price you'd pay for an extension kit.

I don't know the answer to that, as I haven't followed the model years that closely.

Personally, I'd buy the cheapest (decent) skid I could find, then the best shocks for the money and application.

Mine is a just a basic Xtra Lite from a '99 Trail RMK 550. It has a adjustable rear shock that came stock on it. Skid seems to work fine for what I do; powder riding in UT.

For me the sled is going to be for some trail riding here in MN, otherwise I ride powder out west and hope to go to the UP also.

Do the SKS/Switchback have the same skid as the RMK's?

Yup, same skids, just different shocks in them. Tracksusa should have what you are looking for, check their website and give them a call.

For tail riding the Xtra 10 will be better. You have much more ajustablity in the skid for ride contoll with the coupling blocks. For the better handling you pay a weight price. It is a personal issue that you need to decide. Less wt or more ajustment. I always liked the Xtra 10 but hated how much it wt.

The Xlite will be a lighter and better skid for mtn riding. If you are on the trail 50% of the time it won't matter.

I am willing to sacrifice trail manners if it means I have a better off trail sled. I didn't buy an RMK for the way it handles the trails in MN that's for sure. I want a good mountain sled that will handle the trails if it has to. And if that's the case it sounds like a Xtra-lite is the way to go.

Thanks!
