how far should the oil pump open when the throttle is wide open? when mine is wide open my oil pump arm can open ALOT more

I would be more concerned with fuel/oil ratio than anything else. My 2002 EDGE-X 800 HAD "more room to move" on the pump arm as well @ full throttle.
My 2007 D-7 had the "marks"lined up on the pump was overly rich @ 37:1, 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns on the 10mm adjuster nuts and I've been running @ 57:1 for the last 1200+ miles.
I'm more that comfortable with 55:1 or 60:1

I tend to go another way about it, since there is so much in-consistancy with the in the cables and marking on the pumps.
Sleds should run 40:1 to 50:1 on average (I have gone as far as 65:1) fuel

40:1 is equel to 40 gallons of gas to 1 gallon of oil OR 10 gallons of gas to 1 quart of oil.
If you are richer than that (1 quart to 7 gallons), start there and lean it out a little at a time till you get to the 40-50:1

Its hard to properly adjust the ratio by simply looking at the oil pump. Keep a log of how much fuel you burn vs. how much oil you burn to get the ratio dialed in.
