DISCOUNT GOVERNOR BYPASS, PIC POSTED, ONLY 1 SMALL WIRE TIE (RED IN PICTURE) required, you just need to keep the spring collapsed, and prevent it from stretching out.

No pins, links, clips required.

One nice feature about this method is that if you have kids of different ages riding the same sled, you can easily "slow the sled down" just by simply taking a pair of side cutters and cutting the tie.

If you choose to do it like this you will eventually wear out a white plastic gear inside the motor and it will cost you a decent amount of money in the long run to fix.. Your way works but not forever! If you want to do it right you can check out recmotors.com and they have the right governor bypass... JMO

Actually, the correct way to do it is to remove the engine, remove the side cover and clutch , and remove the gear, then re-assemble it.

Or you could use the plastic wire tie.

Almost forever is a long time, Most kids will have out grown their 120's long before that plastic gear "breaks in" let alone wear out.

It's your decision...................................

Actually, If you use Recmotors bypass you will never have to remove the gear! It works just like the stock governor but is stiffer and allows everything to work the same as stock! (almost forever) So are you saying when your kid out grows his 120 you just throw it away or do you sell it and let the next kid worry about it? Sooner or later it will fail with a zip tie!!! Not trying to stir the pot just don't want people to think that the zip tie is a forever permanent fix to eliminating the governor. It's just a temp fix that could last one hour or years... your choice!

The point you're overlooking is the plastic gear is still inside spinning with the Rec Motors kit, and still has the potential (albeit slim) of breaking. And as stated, your kid will out grow the sled before the plastic gear fails.

As said above best way is to remove gear from engine or you risk it breaking apart from the higher rpms. Just take the time and pull it out. Fun project to work on with the kids and they learn a little on how a engine works

Glad to hear your son is pleased with performance results!!! ;-)

Rear shock add on costs approx $ 30 and half day of your time

I have a thread here on SnoWest along with pics

I purchased the adjustable main jet kit from recmotors.com, but never installed it, so can't comment about benefits +/-

You can also change the gearing for more top speed now that you've done the governor mod, slightly decreases acceleration

Please disregard this information... It's not accurate and I have no way of deleting it being it was posted three years ago. I just received negative rep on something I posted a long time ago. Just use a zip tie and life goes on! LOL
