What your talking about are called PRIVATE SOCIAL GROUPS.
That allows you to create your own private forum, invite in only those people you want to participate, then post pretty much anything you want that is only visable to your Privat Social Group members.

Actually, I'm not sure I could be a part of a group that would allow me to be a part of....

It would be really nice to have this happen, on the old forum there were private threads that worked like this. It was a place for people to discuss ideas a little more discretely than the open forum and didn't have to listen to the clowns that run their mouths about something that they don't have knowledge of.
The first one that comes to mind was the 2 stroke turbo thread where a lot of people that knew what they were talking about shared very in depth information with each other without the hassles of the "clowns" and without worry of an idea or new success getting thrown out to the masses.
The "clowns" are often called Grenade Throwers or Bomb Tossers.
They come into a thread, Toss A Grenade that wreak havoc and then they run away having trashed things in their wake.
We will work to make sure they know they are NOT WELCOME in the future. But that requires a team of well trained and "Alert" moderators that is yet to be assembled here on SnoWest.
