My 2012 Duramax/Allison 3500 HD is my daily driver and gets about 14.3 mpg in bumper to bumper traffic. Seems like (if I remember correctly) when I'm towing my enclosed w/ a 3000 lbs rock crawler, it gets right around 19-20 on the freeway. About 9800 miles on the odometer now.

You see 19-20 pulling a rock crawler? I only see about 13mpg pulling my enclosed steel trailer. I see about the same during commuting (14mpg). On the highway I will see an easy 18mpg sometimes 20mpg if I'm moving long at 65-70mph. Once you get over 75mph it starts to drop.

See that seems respectable to me. Unloaded not pushing it too hard thats all I've ever got on all my diesel pickups is 17-19 on the interstate.

I own both brands. A 2011 Denali dually and a 2011 F350. Had a 2008 F350 before that (biggest POS) and a 2006 2500 sierra (best truck ever) before that. Never owned a dodge but have driven them. That being said, I actually prefer the Ford to my Chev in most conditions, and I'm a Chev guy. The ford gets better mileage, seems more comfortable to drive and has better cab room. The new motor is awesome and super quiet, but I don't trust the trans. The GM shifts way better IMO, and is alot smoother riding truck, but I feel a little cramped in the cab. The urea filler as alot easier to get to on the ford, and you don't need to spill the fluid all over the underside of your engine compartment. The Denali option is a farce, $3000 grille. My wife's 07 Denali Yukon has way more bells and whistles than my truck. The Ford has a way more modern dash for sure, but not quite as classy as the Denali, IMO. Bang for buck, I think the Ford Has it.

Thanks for all the feedback from every one. I picked up a 2013 2500 Denali tonight. A 1 ton was probably overkill for my application so I went with a 3/4. It was hard to break my decades long Ford streak. Hope I made the right call.

lets see off the top of my head, z71, nav, sunroof,20's, pwr htd camper mirrors,6inch running boards.

That sounds like what I was contemplating but when I was able to get the 3500 Duramax/Allison w/ pretty much everything but the nav and 20s for way less, I couldn't pass it up. Nevertheless, it sounds like you got a nice rig. Safe to assume you got a diesel?

Yes, for sure Dmax. Once you start burning oil you cant go back. Just gets in your blood somehow :) I hear you on the 3500. I could have ordered one and waited 8 weeks but its truly way overkill for my use. Maybe if GM comes out with a new body style in a few years I'll order a 1 ton then. Also, I got a fair deal on this truck. These guys matched the Dave Smith price plus a $500 gift card. I'll try to get a picture posted up tomorrow.

When I bought mine the cooled seats were only optioned in the denali so it was more than 1200.00. The 2012's offer them now in their SLT's.

Correct. So if you get an slt with cooled seats and add the other standard options, say premium sound, leather, etc. the cost difference is only $1200. For that $1200 you get color matched bumpers, chrome trim, Denali badging, upgraded wheels, nicer dash, heated steering wheel, standard backup camera.

Milehigh. So far love this truck. The mirrors on the other hand with the split big/small program is driving me insane. You have any suggestions? I can't seem to get the little one adjusted so it does me any good when I'm back up in tight spots and the big (not big enough) mirror cuts off half of what I'm trying to see.

No suggestions other than have someone stand out and adjust it for you until it is right.

I've never heard a complaint about the mirrors. I drive these trucks daily and have no issues. Always backing them on the lot as well.

If you don't have it you can add a backup camera pretty easily.

I have a Denali with these mirrors and love them. My 2006 Duramax had the corny smaller mirrors and they were not good for towing. My biggest complaint with the mirrors you have is that they are not power. I found too that they are in between for towing and daily operation. I finally just set them up to where I can still see the blind spot and sorta see my rear wheels. You get used to them quick.

Ya I'm What's the point of them I guess is my question. Are the small mirrors for blind spots when your doing lane changes? Seems like if I get them adjusted to back the truck in tight spots then they don't work for blind spot mirrors. At any rate good advice just trying to keep adjusting and using to see if I can get used to them.

Better late than never on the pictures. So far I've done a leveling kit (can't really tell in these pictures) and put on electric running boards.

how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking. I've been a duramax guy for 7 trucks now and had to try a cummins mega cab out. After a year with the truck I feel it's a great truck, but imo I'm a much bigger fan of the duramax. I hate the gmc interior though. My wife and I went and drove a 13 slt duramax and lariat ford and after being in both I think my dodge has a better interior, but gmc and ford have better motor/tranny combos. I am debating on trying a ford for a year and waiting for the new duramax to come out or what to do. the denalli sure is a gorgeous truck.
