just got back from my 1st trip pulling 3 place trailer with 2012 EB, I only had 1500 miles on the truck when I left

MN to WY @75mph with huge headwind - 10-11mpg
WY to Mn @75mph with huge tailwind - 17-20mpg

I LOVE this engine, if you have ever climbed with other 1/2 tons from Cheyenne to Laramie you know it typically sucks with this rig it was enjoyable and just flat out worked. If your considering a new truck this should be on you list of trucks to go look at.

Did you have the max tow package? 3.73 gears?

How strong of headwind between Chey-Lar and were you able to still run close to 75 most or all of the time?

I can't speak for RIDECATS but as for myself:

I did not get the max tow and have the 3.55 gears due to the fact that I only pull a sled trailer probably 2 times a year (my buddies pull the other times).

I will report on how the truck does after I get back.

Just pulled 740 miles with my old 06 5.4 supercrew...4 place open trailer ideal conditions, no wind to speak of...got 9mpg @ 65-70 mph, could not pull top gear, wanting EcoBoost, assume it would do better??

Is there a hill between Laramie and Cheyenne? I didn't notice with my Ecoboost in December pulling a 20' trailer with 3 sleds...

That is good news!!! Everytime i have been out there with my 05 Crew Cab 1500 Chev with a 5.3 i am going about 50-55mph accross that section in second gear! That has been with a 2 place or a 4 place it always seems the same. I can go the speed limit most of the time if i wanted too but i would just be at 5500 RPM in second gear the whole way. This makes me want a ecoboost for my next truck for sure!!!

What is the race / need to keep your speed on the big hills for?

I don't get it. Spending a bunch of money for better performance for a couple miles of road? Can't you figure anything better to do with your money? retirement? pay down debt? pay off house?

Easy buddy!!!! Im not going to just spend a bunch of money for nothing. Im 30 years old with no debt. A decent house that is almost half paid for and My wife and i each put 15% of our pay checks in our 401's. My 05 has 178,000 miles on it and when i buy a new truck i will pay cash for it. Im not stupid with money. I was just saying when my truck is worn out and i buy a new truck this is the kind of thing i will be looking for. So i just don't get why you are jumping to conclusions?

Cause I am a jerk? lol Just seemed like you were justifying getting a new truck based on the ability to make the climb at a faster speed.

Good on you with your budgets and saving!!

LOVE my Ecoboost

I bought a 2011 FX4 with 3.73 gears, currently got 3000 miles on it. Empty I have seen as high as 20.5 mpg on the highway. I average 17.5 mpg town/hwy. Just pulled 4 sleds 700 miles (open trailer/not sure what the weight was) from the Bighorns back to Fargo, ND at 75 mph and averaged 12.7 mpg. With the trailer sway control, integrated brake controller and power I had to keep looking in my mirror to see if the trailer was still there! I also have a work truck 2011 XLT with the 5.0L and 3.55 gears (32K on truck) and it gets the same mileage as the ecoboost with 3.73 gears. Both trucks have been absolutely flawless

I replaced a 2006 F-150 (5.4L) and they aren't even in the same class of truck. The power is amazing, almost no turbo lag. The truck was pulling 5% grades for over a mile with the trailer, and never lost speed or even shifted out of 6th gear where my '06 would have been screaming and searching for a gear.

As far as price, my truck has evey factory option including nav, moon roof, and luxury pkg, except the 20" wheels (hated the tires they came with)
The MSRP was $48,630, and with all rebates I paid $38,180 which included all fees other than tax and license.

Again, I can't get enough of driving this truck. It has been awesome in every way, inside and out, towing, and empty. The only reason I wish I would have gotten a '12 is they have the 36 gal tank (mine has 26 gal), cooled seats (mine are only heated), and the ability to lock the differntial out in 2WD (mine has to be in 4WD)

Hey, I'm just saying that if you cannot travel at the posted speed limit,
you either need a bigger engine or smaller trailer.
There's nothing gained by being a menace to other motorists.

Do you expect the same from fully loaded semi trucks and dump trucks pulling grades?

Menace? ie impacting others precious time due to a reduced speed for a couple of miles?... I guess we are entitled to it...lol

Well I finally took my screw ecoboost to the mountains. I put 8 ply Nitto terra grapplers on the truck to handle the weight. The crossfire was the longest track I can fit in my bed and not hit the trailer.

The truck performed flawlessly. It was a pleasure to put the cruise control on and sail down the road at 75 MPH. I had 5 sleds, 5 guys and all the gear so it was a pretty big test for a 1/2 ton truck with a 3.5L V6 but it worked great.

I drove from eastern SD to the snowy mountains near Laramie, WY. (750 miles)

Round trip I averaged 8.5 MPG driving 75 MPH including wind gusts as high as 75 MPH in some areas.
