Ok going to make an under tunnel exhaust. Was lookin at the stock setup and the header pipe or mid pipe whatever you want to call it is tipped up then the muffler is slipped on. What is everyone doing with this tip up? Are you guys cutting the mid pipe back some or having a pipe bent that tips back down. Any ideas would be great. Also anyone know exactly what sport bike mufflers work? Looking for same ID as the stock OD so it just slips on. Or is there more modifaction needing to be done.

yea me too
I have a exhaust pipe bender so I can bend just about anything
was thinking about trying to build a 3 into 1 header with larger diameter tubing
then install a glass pack or bike silencer. didnot have time to pull seat etc.. and start working on it YET

That portion of pipe is called the "collector".

I had the collector cut (notched) and re-welded...had to do it twice for enough clearance to allow a muffler to slip on (you need about 1 1/4" of clearance between the tunnel and top of the collector outlet when done)...I used an Erion Racing muffler for a CBR 1000...cut some "expansion" notches in the muffler inlet pipe to allow the "doughnut gasket" to fit with a clamp.

Hope this helps...sorry, no pics.

Here is what I did. I cut it right before the weld after the collector then I cut the weld off the pipe. Cleaned it up a bit then The pipe goes back in the collecter about a 1/8th inch like before so I can aim the bend where I want it and re weld it. I will have more pics in a couple days once I get it welded and installed. Also a pic of my tunnel blank off. I am going to put on another sheet on top of the whole thing to clean it up and remove all holes. Trying a new way for the pics so we'll see if it works

If you go to Excels website and look at the Dyno runs for the Nytro and Vector you will see the HP gains pretty much all come from the larger header and not the muffler. You'll gain some luggage space and more noise but not much power with the stock header. I did some calculations last year and the stock header pipe diameter is designed for low end and mide range power but is too small for max peak power. The Excel headers are sized correcltly for peak HP. The Vector header works awsome on the Nytro.

I did the Excel Vector header as well based on M5's postings. The larger outlet meant I could easily find an extension at the local auto parts store to slip over the outlet and into my Hindle can (one end flared, the other straight). Awesome setup, highly recommended.

Yeah im looking for an excell vector header just don't have the cash for a new one so looking used. But for now want to go under tunnel so i can put a bag and gas rack on tunnel plus i think it looks better being undertunnel.

Factory header from a pre '08 Nytro or Rage (PN# 8ES-14610-00-00)

They run about $150, and the collector runs the mid-pipe straight down the center of the tunnel...

That wouldnt be a bad idea. Think im just going to cut mine short and weld on a piece that goes straight then get a slip on for a bike. Looking for a deeper tone if anyone has any good ones or ones NOT to get would be great. Was lookin at Yoshimura and Leo Vance(?)

if your doing undertunnel the yoshi wouldn't be a bad exhaust to use (only heard sounds from video clips)
if you want something a little quieter go with the leo vince

Mine will be getting a excell but I just bought the sled and there are things that are way higher on the list to spend the money on right now. So for this year I am getting my tunnel cleaned like I wanted and not spending hardly any money so at this point I am not looking for the extra power. I think spending $150 on a header would be kinda a step in the wrong direction when I can weld one for free and spend the $150 on other stuff more needed (front shocks, rear skid, track Etc) JMO

to run a pre 08 nytro vector rage 3 cyl 120 series oem header wont do you any good, other than getting you a straight in the center of the tunnel header. it wont offer any more performance than the stock fx nytro header. in my opinion if you are going to spend money, buy more performance, not get the same.

the vector nytro rage header from excell is a larger tube diameter and will flow more exhaust and shows gains on the dyno for peak HP. and yes it costs more than a oem header.

the tachacardia or lcc/tj's can set up has you cut just under 6" off the stock fx nytro header to get the can to work under the tunnel. you could feasibly do that with a stock header and a cycle can as well, by using reducers from the local auto store to mate the header to the can.

Stock Vector/Rage is the identical part to the stock Nytro header except the last 6" or so and the tunnel mount. I've had both parts side by side. Save your money and cut the Nytro header if you are even considering the other option.

Geez. You guys are brutal. I was just doing what ridehard asked... giving ideas... :D

Besides, there are a few guys out there that don't have fabrication skills, or the resources to get it done somewhere else... :beer; It's just another idea

keep the ideas coming... there are kits for this but the price is a bit out of control... 950-1200 bones!!

Any idea how big the muffler diameter can be when doing nytro undertunnel exhaust with the excell vector header?? I have a stainless bike muffler that i think will work perfect but it is round and the diameter is 4.5 inches. I know some guys are using oval mufflers for this but some of them are approaching 4 or 5 inches too i believe. I have 2.25 track. how big are the mufflers that some of you have used?
