Avid/Polaris drivers

Gregg called and asked if I would compare the 3.0 pitch drivers. Robbies drivers get the job done.
Polaris’s 3.0 pitch driver drives on one lug, Polaris’s 2.86” pitch does a better job on a 3.0” pitch track.

I’ll see if I can get a seven tooth Polaris to compare. The 2.86 in the pic is an 8 tooth.

Rough measuring, Avid 3” 7 tooth circumference is 19 7/8”
Polaris 3” 7 tooth circumference is 20 7/8”

So one could run an Camso x3 3.0 pitch or any 3.0 pitch track with the stock axys 2.86 drivers?

If someone has a set of 2.86 7 tooth drivers to check, we will know. The 8 tooth fit very well. If that is any indication, its ?

how do you think this applies when track is and driver are in sled as in only partially wrapped around driver ?

I have a set of Avids installed, the driver contacts the drive lugs.
We may now have a window into why stock Polaris track/drivers ratchet.

I have a set of stock 2.86 7 tooth on the bench I can send you.

The contact points are interesting/eye opening to see. The other affect is gearing. If you gear for a 3 x 7 Avid, it’s not 21”. It’s basically the same as stock 2.86. That’s how this convo started, which turned into the comparison.

The other thing Robbie told me was the shape and length of the Avid “teeth” create better contact.

Wrap your 3” around them, and post a pic, that would be great. The track in my pic is a PC with some miles on it.

My track is mounted up. I will send them or try to run over to Greggs for a pic. I don’t think his is in yet.

so my avids 2.86 7T will fit a 3.0 track??? is this what im gathering or is that still unknown?
tony you do have a 3.0 pitch track avids 8T 2.86 drivers and running that combo with no problems?

i'll try and explain my thoughts process
(not that it may make much difference )

so with those pics the track is wrapped around driver
and i see that the driver cog is not contacting the track lug
very well at all

but what is it like when on sled ?
how many drive cogs are actually driving track when on sled

does that make sense ?
i'm not at all arguing about whether Polaris drivers are good or anything
just that if when installed the track wrap around driver only
contacts two or however many
does that make the poor designed drive less of an issue ?

3 to 4 drivers hit the track at all times {on a 7T} and no it makes no diff. if you look at the first pic. the first cog is hitting and the rest gap off progressively more and more it just does not matter if you are trying to contact 6 drivers or just 2 it was only contacting the first and got worse the more you tried to hit

sorry mist the last ??? you hade. no the track is forced to stretch to contact the rest of the drivers or worse yet its to far of a stretch and forced to turn that track with 1 or 2 drivers VS. the 3 or 4 that was intended :}

That is still an unknown.... but it may be an alternative. Gregg did a circumference measurement that’s comparable to the Avid 7t 3.0 pitch driver.

I have a set of Avid 8 tooth 3 pitch on my drop and roll. Knowing what we know now testing the stock 8 tooth 2.86 pitch on the 3” pitch track was in order. From the pics, I believe it will work. The Avids have more contact points than stock drivers in 2.86 or 3.0.

Yes. I know guys that have done exactly what your asking. I personally have not tried it, but I would next time im in that situation.

If you're going to drop the skid and put a 3" pitch in why not put in avid extros? The stock Polaris drivers are way too soft IMO and wear prematurely.

Talking about drivers, has anyone tryed the avid 7 tooth centre driver, the one were you don't half to cut the rails and had good success?
