2' of fresh about 90" total, running an 09 Twisted M8-162 with Kmod conversion, @10 psi on avgas with new Camo 9220M- 3" track.
here's the issue I had a 2010 Impulse Nytro at 16 psi on Avgas with a 174x 2.5" spank my azz so bad it was ridiculous, I set my Kmod on a 4- 90% coupled, least ski lift possible. rear float set at about 190psi, I was getting really good track speed, but when it got really steep the front end was still a good 2-3 feet in the air. i'm thinking I need a 174" but torqued because I just spent almost $1k on the new 3". what else can i do, may try to add another 10 psi on rear float, my gauge doesn't measure above 170 psi. another issue if I leave my Kmod set at a 4 it steers like a freight train.

You are really thinking your gonna dust an Alpine or Impulse Nytro with the M8 at only 10 PSI on straight AV? The outcome was as it should have been. The only suggestion I have is to sell the 09 M8. The HO engines use 3 LBS less of boost to make the same power as the 09 engines do. And run the Raptor shocks with the Kmod, period! Floats are sh1te IMO.

right not exactly comparing apples to apples

his kit is putting out roughly 270HP, my setup is about 240-250HP, my sled is about 500 dry, his sled plus 100 lbs. my post isn't about comparing the two sleds it was just background details. I was looking for feedback on 162 VS 174 and possible advice on suspension setup on the Kmod. I feel that my sled should not have been spanked so badly. it was definitely a big HP kind of day. I bought the Kmod to keep the front down, utilizing it's technology I have it set for minimal ski lift, and the rear float darn near maxed out , thing still wheelies too much climbing steep chutes, sure the pucker factor is great , but not practical I do not want my skis 3' in the air when trying to slay a steep chute. My thought process is that i need a longer track.

is this a case when you have to much paddle? would a shorter paddle keep track speed up but keep help keep front end down? or would you loose to much traction with shorter track . is this the only downfall to such a large track, that in super steep with all that horse power cant help but wheelie out of control. 174 would definetly make a difference but hard to justify for few times a year.

That thing on the right side of your handlebars with a cable going to it is called a throttle. Hold that to the bars and you will go faster LOL

More like you have 210-220 hp. No replacement for 50 hp. I have seen e few 3 inch tracks run now and whatever sled they have been on, they can't keep the front end down. I'm not sold on them. Some swear by them. I think suspension setup with a 3 inch is extra critical.

4 stroke turbo power is so tough to beat, especially on the yamahas. The yamis just get the power to the track at all track speeds and with a wider range of rpm. A race gas m1000 will compete with the boosted yamis but not much else will...not even the new cats 4s on big boost. You want the highmark, you boost a yami or m1000.

i agree

10lbs on a m8 is not 250

i have a 1100t with the 215 reflash that i believe will work my old '10 m8 at 10lbs on avgas...

in fact i know it will

these 4s are a beast!!!!!

FYI- Throttle was Pinned

Race gas and 14lbs with a 2876 maybe? Also the limiter strap still works on a Kmod. All that and Yami turbo power is still hard to beat. You can't get around the torque of a 4 stroke.

You could also drop the rear suspension bolt to the lower hole. That type of ski pressure isn't worth the highmark to me. They handle like crap everywhere else.

Strap 50lbs to the hood. There is a reason the big four strokes do not come over backwards very often.

My buddies 3" on a big bore XP is having the same issue w/ a coupled skid. Same skid, on my old man's XP w/ a 2.5 track and big bore climbs w/out any issues. The 3'' tracks really seem hard to keep down.

put a nytro engine in it.. or just wait and buy a 2015 Cat or Yammi with a yammi engine and cat chassis.. then spank the impulse!!

Point being Yammi power is hard to compete with

limiter strap- on Kmod

Kevin set to set it a 12.5" from the skid and not touch it- ever. basically one setting.

He says to put the rear suspension in the upper hole too but some like to experiment.

Not trying to be a dick but you've done everything else to keep the nose down.

Im running a similiar setup. 2009 M8 boondocker race gas 2871 at 12lbs, 162X3. I have the skid in the bottom hole in the back and pulled the limiters up 1". 200lbs in rear shock and it holds the front not bad. Im 270 lbs so im thinking a 174 is in my future but when my buddy jumps on my sled it makes a big difference (he's only 185lbs). Its a 3", I hate to say it but you're kind of limited to what you can do to keep the front down. Good luck with it.
