I keep checking mine because of all the problems people are having but I have only found chipping on corners at the 1000 mile mark. The last time I looked at 500 miles they look like new but I replaced them anyways since I was in there. 10-12 psi

So if velocity is in question, would polaris style stuffers help? Did closing the openings to 10mm help on the outer edge trouble? What are guys running? 13 in the center and 10 on the edges? How are the ho 800 cages different than the zr's or the m1000's?? My dealer doesnt have a whole lot of parts for me to look at to compare..
So I called boysen and they said they dont stock the m1000 reeds in the light duty. They only stock the mt-medium tension or ht- high tension.. They are $124 for a set of 4 and the boysen part number is 274-mt
or the western powersports number is 59-8374 med tension. I am going to try the carbon tech reeds over the top of my new stock m1000 reeds and hope for good life out of them..
I am also going to try the edges gapped at 10mm and the centers 13mm..

You would want to use the m 800 reeds if you are loooking for a light or lighter tension then the m 1000..

I commend you on your efforts man. its like the e troch turbo thing. THEY ALL say its a done deal ,,, NOT 1 really is. they all have more headaches than smiles. SOME should be neutered to teach them a lesson about lieing to their customers..!!!!

So Gus if I'm reading your post right I would want to get 8 of the carbon tech (Boysen) reeds to go on my turbo M8 and that should last me much longer than the stock m8 reeds?

BOYESEN said they would make the Lt reeds for the m1000 or the m8 for an additional 20$ and would take them a few days to get done..
My question is if the velocity flow is in a tubular flow pattern and the outer edge of the reeds are just floating without fuel to cool them is that the reason for failure? The tech at boyesen said the m1000 reeds would be stronger meaning the wider the petal the more stable.. He said the wide 2 petal supported the outer edge of the pedal better than a 3 petal or a 4 petal..

I ordered a set of the carbon tech HT and the turbo specific 800 reeds from boyesen. They are both the 2 petal design. Gunna test both this season. Have 500 miles at 10lbs on the turbo ones this year. Gunna check em with bore cam next weekend to see if any chipping yet.
So, is a guy better off with a doubled set of medium tension Carbon Techs or a set of Carbon Tech medium tensions over a set of stock ZR/M8 reeds? What is stiffer the Carbon Tech medium tension or the ZR/M reeds? I suppose I should just quit being cheap and pay the extra for two sets of low tension Carbon Techs.

I just looked up carbons on the boyesen site an dosent show LT for the 800. Only mid an high.

zr is a 4 petal not a 3.
its a dampening thing not a direct thick petal tension thing. cooling fuel is not the problem. the bigger the throttle body diameter, the harder you are on the edge of the outer reeds. closing down the edges increases velocity under the petal.
I stopped analyzing and started doing, thats how I stayed riding..less time typeing, reading , calling and more time testing..LOL

Well i am confused, the pictures on ebay and on boyesen show the zr to be a 3 petal..
I have 600 miles on my single stack four pedal reeds with ovs extended stops and they looked like new when I pulled the t bodies not long ago. m1000 @10lbs. This is what gus suggested last season, so I tried it. I have a new fuel box for this season so hopefully I dont burn them up.

The Zr 600 is a three petal and the old ZR 700 was a whole different animal
Look up ZR900 or a mountain cat 800 or 900.....or M/F 7 M/F 8 they are all dimensionally the same.
I just recently received some aftermarket replacement reeds that were thinner than the OEM ones.....more flexible?
