What Octane Rating?

All stock 2007 M8 with an SLP can. Relatively new to the sled world and just curious what octane I should be running. 87 is Cat recommended of course but I would think a 91 "Premium" pump gas would be better.

Thoughts?!

87 unless you've increased the compression.

If you've increased compression and running at sea level, may want to use 91.

If you've increased the compression and you are running at high altitude, 87 may work depending how radical you went.

Yes....they run best on 87...and cheaper!

Remember octane is what is used to measure the resistance to detonation. Running a higher octane fuel then needed will NOT give you more power. Like everyone said if you are stock or close to 87 is fine.

so we r at 2000 feet so when we go to 8000 run less really why is this,i have not heard this before so i am all ears

Less oxygen available from the atmosphere at higher altitude makes the fuel ignition harder, just like octane.

Octane

I've been told i need to run 91 in my M10. Reeds and full exhaust, I'd love to run Reg. No compression or timing changes, I've started on 91 but any chance someone is running 87 with this setup?

With a full exhaust and reeds I would DEFIANTLY stick with 91. What elevation are you at?

Pretty much 3000-7000, coastal mountains. Certainly don't want any issues. I though I might get some more power outa the 87.

Not sure if you have an SLP or speedwerx setup but SLP recommends 91 for the full pipe. They do not list an elevation for this so I can only assume they mean for all elevations.

Is 87 octane considered regular unleaded in most places? Where I am at in MT we get 85.5 octane as regular and 88 octane as mid grade.

If you have the stock head why run 91, 87 is always going to be fresher gas, honestly thats were the problems come in..JMO...
