Took the new 2019 High Country 800 out for its first break in ride and squeaked a piston at 30 miles. Have not gotten a response out of Cat yet.

Anyone else having any issues?

interested as well. 2nd engine that i've heard failing so far, believe the other one was deprived of oil because a line came disconnected.

Interesting to squeak a piston as they oil the crap outta these things during the break in. A pinched line or failed pump would make sense.

Still no response from Cat. They have only suggested that their may be an air leak past the intake screen....WTF?

10:1 for the initial start up on these and then 30:1 for a bit. It smoked so bad that the 3' surrounding area of the exhaust was black........

I had motor lock up today 200 ish miles sled ran mint for last 4 days and most of the day today. 12” fluff in meadow rpms were 8200 thought I pulled feather. Checked it was in went to pull rope and was stuck.. got back to lodge and hood is packed full of snow from towing it 42 miles. Going to rent one I guess to finish out trip. Can’t blame it on fuel as all of had same fuel and this sled was filled in middle of group. Can’t say cold seized cause we been riding all day and sled had been running on and off all day only shut off to hear radios or take pictures. Sled is completely stock except for bumper. Little upset that I have to rent a sled to finish trip. Sled is best handling sled I have owned and I had 17 axys last year. The 154 alpha is still running mint. Hoping it’s a fluke deal

Did it hiccup or bog prior? Snow in the intake? All the ones I know of that have failed are from improper hood fit. Before running boost I taped and siliconed all seems. Bad design. 400 this yr on boost and running perfect

Premix in the tank? Is this normal? 10:1 would make that gas very thick and actually make the sled run really lean. Even 30:1 will lean it down decently due to viscosity of the fuel.

I have never run a premix for break-in for this reason...it actually leans it down. Maybe you squeaked it by holding it in the midrange where 2 strokes like to run lean anyway?

Yea. That cant be right, that means 1 gallon of oil to 10 gallons of gas. He must of meant 100:1 oil in the gas tank.

the electronic oil pump runs it at 10.1 for the first 20 minutes and then 30.1 for the next 5.7 hours on the break in. so no need to put oil in the tank like we use to. after this you will be close to 50.1 depending on how much WOT you run.

I think I miss read his comment. But really 10:1 for 20 minutes. Wow.

After 6hrs on the clock i avg ~60:1.
Pretty easy riding till the snow gets deep.
180 mi. ~15hrs.

Cat didn't come out with a big ad and a bunch of videos touting the Ctec as the most reliable engine they have ever produced.

So far on the 840, i have seen(or read) over 20 engine issues. From pistons to bearings and one broken rod.(only .02% of total sales, not bad honesty)

Every brand will have some failures. I believe Polaris' new 850 will be the leader this yr, by a fair margin.........
Next yr it will probably be as good as they promised for this yr.
Then everyone will be happy.
